Review: Tierra Noble Tequila Cristalino

by Jeff Ellingson

Tierra Noble Tequila Cristalino is distilled at La Estacada 7200 feet above sea level by Master Distiller Alberto Herrera from 100% blue agave.  80% grown in the valley and 20% in the Los Altos region.  The agave is slow cooked in steel ovens with no pressurization.  Once cooled the juice is extracted and fermented with Montpelier wine yeast for 10 days in a double fermentation process.  The spirit is double distilled and barrel aged.  Some are matured in  barrels made from 75 year old American white oak, and some in barrels made from 150 year old French white oak.  These reposado tequilas are then blended before bottling.  The aroma leads with vanilla, and cooked agave.  Additional time brings out tangerine, toasted coconut, and grapefruit.  The sweet agave entry is joined by orange and grapefruit building to a peach, raspberry, cacao, and cooked agave peak.  It fades with orange and caramel and finishes with peach, coconut, raspberry, tangerine, oak, and herbal notes.
