Review: Flecha Azul Tequila Reposado

Flecha Azul Tequila was founded by longtime friends Aron Marquez, CEO of Wildcat Oil Tools, and Abraham Ancer, the #1 ranked golfer in Mexico.  Mark Wahlberg became the principal investor in 2021.  Flecha Azul Reposado is made from 100% Blue Weber Agave grown for 8 years and hand selected .  Once trimmed the pinas are slow cooked in traditional masonry ovens.  Once cooled the juice is extracted and fermented for 72 hours in an open air steel tank and then double distilled.  The tequila rests in steel tanks for 60 days prior to aging in ex-bourbon American oak barrels for 6 months prior to bottling. Review: Tequila Herradura Reposado

Since 1870 Casa Herradura has been hand harvesting and estate bottling the finest tequila.  The agave is estate grown and their estate is currently growing over 25 million agave at every stage of maturity.  Tequila Herradura introduced the world to reposado in 1974.  Before that your options were Mixto or 100% blue agave blanco tequila.  Each estate grown agave is hand harvested and sliced in half before they are slow baked up to 26 hours in brick and stone ovens.  Once the juice is extracted it undergoes a 100% natural open air fermentation.  The spirit is double distilled, than aged 11 months in medium char American oak barrels.  A tequila must be aged at least 60 days to be designated Reposado.  As you can see Herradura goes far and away above that. Review: Codigo 1530 Reposado Tequila

Codigo 1530 Reposado is named for the year the town of Amatitan received their official charter from Spain.  Codigo was founded by Ron Snyder, the former CEO of Crocs Footwear and Federico Vaughan, who has long been the custodian of the brand that has only been available to close friends and family.  Investors include Country Music Star George Strait and Hockey Hall of Famer Brett Hull.  Codigo is crafted from 7-10 year old agave grown in the Lowland region.  The agave is slow cooked in stainless steel ovens and shredded to extract the juice without the bitter pulp.  It is fermented for 4 days with organic bakers yeast, and double distilled in a still built by the distilling family.  The tequila then rests for 6 months in the finest Napa Valley Cabernet French White Oak Wine Barrels.  It is then bottled with no additives.  Read more »

Review: Santo Fino Reposado Tequila

Santo Fino Reposado Tequila was released March 2021.  It was crafted by Sammy Hagar, Guy Fieri, and Juan Eduardo Nunez, the Master Distiller at El Viejito.  Years ago Sammy worked with Juan in creating the Cabo Wabo brand.  Sammy later sold Cabo Wabo to Campari for $80 million.  Santo Reposado starts with the Santo Blanco Tequila base made from 100% Weber Blue Agave grown in the Highland region.  Once hand selected and trimmed the agave is steamed in traditional stone ovens for 17 hours.  The agave pinas rest for 4 hours and are then steamed for another 12 hours.  The extracted juice is fermented for 4 days and double distilled in copper stills.  The tequila then rests for 4-5 months in lightly charred used American oak bourbon barrels. Review: Casa Del Sol Reposado

All right I’ll admit it we moved up our planned review of Casa Del Sol Reposado after the dust up on a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.  Apparently Kathy Hilton and her daughter Nicki Hilton have joined Co-Founder Eva Longoria as investors in the brand.  Casa Del Sol Reposado tequila is made from 100% blue weber agave grown in the Altos de Jalisco region of Mexico.  The tequila is crafted at Compania Tequilera by Head of Production Alejandra Pelayo, the protege and god daughter of Francisco Alcaraz, the creator and Master Distiller of Patron.  Casa Del Sol translates to House of the Sun.  Once distilled the tequila rests for a minimum of four months in select French Limousin oak cognac barrels once used to mature Martell Cognac. Review: Lobos 1707 Reposado Tequila

Lobos 1707 Reposado is one of three tequila expressions in the Lobos tequila product line.  The others include Lobos 1707 Joven, and Lobos 1707 Extra Anejo.  They also craft Lobos 1707 Mezcal.  The spirits were created as  collaboration between a Spanish Master Distiller who has created sherries and brandies for almost 50 years and a Master Distiller from Mexico who has focused on tequila.  LeBron James and Maverick Carter are two of the sport celebrity investors.  Lobos 1707 Reposado is made from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the rich soil of Altos de Jalisco.  Once distilled the spirit rests for 6 months in American white oak.  A portion of the brands extra anejo tequila is added prior to finishing in Pedro Ximenez “PX” wine barrels using the solera system method. Review: Tequila Komos Reposado Rosa

Tequila Komos Reposado Rosa is crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the Highland and Lowland regions.  CEO and Founder Richard Betts a Master Sommelier partnered with Tequila Orendain de Jalisco in creating the Komos brand.  The Orendain family is one of the four founding families of tequila.  The Komos brand also includes Komos Anejo Cristalino, and Komos Extra Anejo.  The agave is slow roasted in volcanic stone ovens.  The extracted juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts.  After a double distillation in pot stills, the spirits rests for 65 days is French oak red wine barrels that were once or twice filled with wine from Napa and Sonoma.  The tequila is then aerated prior to filling the handmade vitrified porcelain bottles that are hand dipped into a reactive glaze that changes color when fired in the oven.  These beautifully crafted bottles also protect the tequila from sunlight. Review: Milagro Reposado Tequila

Milagro Reposado Tequila was launched in 1998 by college friends and Mexico City natives Danny Schneeweiss and Moy Guindi who shared a passion for tequila.  Working with Master Distiller Pedro Juarez they created the Milagro brand.  William Grant & Sons acquired the distillery and brand in 2006.  Milagro is made from 100% blue agave grown in the Highland region.  The timmed pinas are slow roasted for 36 hours in traditional brick ovens.  Once cooled the pinas are shredded and pressed.  The juice is fermented for 36 hours in stainless steel tanks.  The spirit is distilled in a pot still and then a column still.  Once complete the tequila rests in American oak barrels for 2-4 months before bottling. Review: El Mayor Reposado Tequila

El Mayor Reposado is made from 100% blue weber agave estate grown for 8-10 years at 7500 feet above sea level.  El Mayor was relaunched in the US in 2007.  It is crafted by third generation Master Distiller Rodolfo Gonzalez.  The hand picked trimmed agave is chopped and slow cooked for 24 hours in an autoclave oven.  Once cooled the pinas are gently crushed by a millstone to release the juice.  The agave nectar is fermented with a proprietary yeast in stainless steel vats and double distilled in a copper lined pot still.  The tequila then rests for 9 months in American oak barrels for 9 months prior to bottling. Review: Villa One Reposado Tequila

Villa One Reposado is one of three tequila expressions of tequila developed by Nick Jonas and John Varvatos.  They were inspired during a trip to Mexico in 2018 with family and friends.  Nick and John partnered with Stoli and Master Distiller Arturo Fuentes, “The Godfather of Tequila” to create Villa One.  It is crafted at Fabrica de Tequilas Finos, a distillery Stoli acquired in 2016.  The spirit is made from 100% Weber Blue agave grown for 5-7 years in both the Highland and Lowland Region.  Once harvested and trimmed the agave is slow cooked and double distilled in traditional copper pot stills.  Fresh water drawn from their own artesian well located on their property is blended to reduce to proof.
