Review: JJ Pfister Vodka

JJ Pfister Vodka is crafted by Master Distiller Brian Keck at JJ Pfister Distilling Company in Sacramento California.  The distillery is named for the family patriarch JJ Pfister who emigrated to the US from Switzerland at the age of 25.  He settled in San Francisco, and in 1876 he launched his first business, a one man knitting company.  By 1889 the business was successful enough to build his first factory in San Francisco.  The factory was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and was rebuilt in Berkeley California.  JJ Distilling Company is a family owned business run by Kevin Keck the Great Grandson of JJ Pfister and the father of master distiller Brain Keck.  Their first crafted spirit was a vodka distilled from potatoes they released in 2017.  They currently craft about a dozen spirits including vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, eau de vie, brandy, and Drakus Honey Spirit.  In 2020 they released their current JJ Pfister Vodka, distilled from organic rye locally farmed in the Sacramento Valley using sustainable practices.  This vodka was originally produced as a base for JJ Pfister Gin and because it tasted so good they released it as a vodka.  All of their spirits are crafted on custom stills built in Italy. Review: UV Blue Vodka

UV Blue Vodka - CopyUV Blue Vodka was introduced in 2001.  If you haven’t tasted this vodka before you probably haven’t been in college for at least ten years.  It was the first of the now 22 vodka varieties UV creates with Midwest grown yellow corn.  UV distills their vodka four times before purified water from deep aquifers in Princeton Minnesota that has been filtered through carbon and reverse osmosis is added to reduce to proof.  Natural flavors including vine ripened raspberries and certified color are blended before bottling at 60 proof. Review: UV Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka

UV Ruby Red Grapefruit - CopyUV Ruby Red Grapefruit vodka was just introduced.  This is UV’s second Grapefruit flavored vodka.  The first one I reviewed March 12, 2014.  I believe that one was available in limited markets as it never appeared on the UV website.  It poured to a clear color and had a white grapefruit flavor to it.  Ruby Red already appears on the UV website and it is one of 21 vodka’s currently featured.  UV starts with Midwest grown yellow corn and purified water from deep aquifers in Princeton Minnesota.  It is distilled four times and then filtered with activated carbon.  Natural flavors including real grapefruit juice are added before bottling at 60 proof. Review: UV Grape Vodka

UV Grape - CopyUV Grape vodka is one of 22 flavors The Phillips Distilling Company currently offers Nationwide under the UV label.  It is crafted with vodka made with Midwest grown yellow corn and purified water from deep aquifers in Princeton Minnesota.  It is distilled four times and then filtered with activated carbon before natural flavors including California grown Concord grapes are added.  Concord grapes are named after the town, Concord Massachusetts, where they were developed in 1849.  They are commonly used in making grape juice and jelly. UV Cherry vodka - CopyUV Cherry vodka was introduced in 2008.  It is one of 22 flavors currently available nationwide.  It is crafted with vodka made with Midwest grown yellow corn and purified water from deep aquifers in Princeton Minnesota.  It is distilled four times then filtered with activated carbon before natural flavors including Michigan grown Morello cherries are added.  Morello cherries are sour and have dark skin.  They are primarily used in making cherry pie and cherry preserves.
