Review: Hard Truth Maple Bourbon Cream

Hard Truth Maple Bourbon Cream was released the fall of 2021.  It is one of 20 spirits crafted by Hard Truth Distilling.  It all began when Ed Ryan, Jeff McCabe, and Tim O’Bryan opened an 800 square foot brewpub in 2009.  They have since expanded to restaurants, breweries, and an 18,000 square foot state of the art distillery surrounded by 325 acres of native forest.   The distillery started in the upstairs of their pizza restaurant in 2015.  Hard Truth is now the biggest craft distillery in the state of Indiana.  Master Distiller Bryan Smith spent months focused on finding the perfect balance of Indiana Straight Bourbon, real maple syrup, and Wisconsin dairy cream before landing on this recipe. Review: Jim Beam Bourbon Cream

Jim Beam Bourbon Cream was launched October 2021.  Beam is not the first bourbon cream on the market, and to be honest, with all of the flavored whiskies Jim Beam Bourbon makes, I’m a little surprised they took this long to produce a bourbon cream of their own.  It is made with a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey base.  The bourbon base is made from a secret mix of corn, rye, and barley malt.  The spirit is aged in brand new charred oak barrels.  Beam does not include an age statement for this bourbon or an ingredient list on the bottle.  Jim Beam Bourbon Cream also does not yet appear on their website or Facebook page.  Read more »

Review: Lockwood Distilling Bourbon Cream Liqueur

Lockwood Distilling Bourbon Cream Liqueur is one of nine spirits currently crafted at Lockwood Distilling Company in Richardson Texas.  The other spirits include Lockwood Straight Bourbon, Straight Rye, Texas Style Gin, Vodka, Hibiscus Vodka, Silver Rum, Pineapple Rum, and Vanilla Rum.  The distillery and the adjoining restaurant opened October 2019 by co-owners Evan and Sally Batt.  Evan also co-founded Western Son Distillery in 2012.  All of the spirits are created inhouse using a 100 gallon still.  Lockwood Distilling Bourbon Cream starts with their bourbon base made from a high corn mash with Oklahoma rye.  Real Wisconsin dairy cream, vanilla, almond, and Texas pecan are blended before hand bottling at 34 proof.  The same alcohol content as Baileys Irish Cream. Review: Nooku Bourbon Cream

Nooku Bourbon Cream was introduced in Colorado, December 2016.  It is now available in 14 states, with more to follow.  Nooku is inspired by a Native American name for the white snowshoe rabbit.  Nooku Bourbon Cream is crafted using two ingredients, Old Elks Bourbon and real dairy cream from Creamy Creations in Batavia New York.  Old Elks Bourbon is produced in Fort Collins Colorado at Old Elk Distillery with malted barley, rye, and corn.  Four times more malted barley is used than conventional bourbon recipes call for.  The Old Elk Distillery was launched by Curt and Nancy Richardson, the founders of Otterbox and Blue Ocean Enterprises.  The bourbon is aged two years in new charred white oak barrels.  Traditional proofing takes 24-48 hours.  The slow cutting technique used to produce Old Elk Bourbon occurs over several periods, and takes significantly longer. Review: Woodys Northwoods Maple Bourbon Cream

Woodys Northwoods Maple Bourbon Cream is one of three bourbon creams recently released by Apollo Beverages.  The other varieties include Original Bourbon Cream, and Honey Bourbon Cream.  Woodys Maple is crafted with real maple syrup, bourbon aged in American oak barrels, and real dairy cream.  This is my second Woodys review, and the one I was most interested in trying, but maple flavored spirits have been hit or miss, and I felt Woodys Original was the safer pick.  Because Woodys Original tasted so good, I decided to give their Maple Bourbon Cream a try. Review: Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream

Buffalo Trace bourbon CREAMBuffalo Trace Bourbon Cream is made in small batches using Buffalo Trace Bourbon and a cream liqueur.  Originally only available at their distillery in Franklin County Kentucky, it is now bottled in Rochester New York.  This has allowed them to increase the distribution of this product.  Packaged in a brown glass, bell shaped bottle to protect the cream within, it features their trademark torn label with a buffalo, and weighs in at 15% alcohol.  Irish cream liqueurs are typically bottled at 17%.  However, unlike Irish creams where most contain grain spirit and Irish whiskey, Buffalo Trace only uses bourbon.
