Review: 3 Howls Spiced Rum
3 Howls Spiced Rum was introduced in 2014. The inspiration came when Local 360, a Seattle restaurant that sources all ingredients served at the restaurant within a 360 mile radius, commented that no one locally made a spiced rum. The 3 Howls Distillery currently crafts 3 whiskeys, 3 vodkas, 2 gins, and 2 rums in the Soho neighborhood of Seattle Washington. 3 Howls Spiced Rum is made with sweet molasses from Barbados that is fermented with Scottish ale yeast in an open 600 gallon cypress wood tank. The spirit is twice distilled in a 300 gallon hybrid pot/column still. Fresh botanicals including vanilla bean, cinnamon, coffee, mace, allspice, and urfa biber are macerated with the rum for 7 days. Review: 3 Howls Blood Orange Vodka
3 Howls Blood Orange Vodka was launched October 2013, and it is part of a spirit lineup that includes 3 whiskeys, 3 vodka’s, 2 gin’s, and 2 rums. All are crafted at their distillery in the Sodo neighborhood of Seattle Washington. 3 Howls Blood Orange is made with a corn grain mash bill. It is distilled 7 times in a 300 gallon copper still. The vodka is 100% naturally flavor vapor infused with locally sourced dehydrated blood oranges and a specialty blend of spices including hand chopped cloves, and cardamom. Review: 3 Howls Banana Vodka
3 Howls Banana Vodka was launched October 2013 along with their Blood Orange Vodka and Good Old Fashioned Gin. Their distillery was founded in 2013 in the heart of Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. The 5000 square foot distillery also crafts a Spiced Rum, Gold Rum, Rye Whiskey, Hopped Whiskey, and Vodka. The name and logo are the result of a distillery tour, co-owner and company founder Will Maschmeier had in Isla Scotland. There he heard the story of Cu-Sith, a giant hound who roams Scotland’s Highlands and Moors. Legend has it the beast howls three times before taking souls to the underworld. 3 Howls Banana vodka is crafted with a corn grain mash bill. It is distilled 7 times in a 300 gallon copper still. The vodka is vapor infused through Real banana, clove, cinnamon, and vanilla beans in the final distillation. Caramelized sugar is then added after the distillation process. (less than 2%).
