Review: Dented Brick Disco-Nut Coconut Rum

by Jeff Ellingson

Dented Brick Disco-Nut Coconut Rum was released July 2020.  It is made in collaboration with the Utah Pride Center and the Pride Center at Equality Park in Florida.  10% of sales are donated to support these organizations.  Disco-Nut Coconut is made from a 81 proof light rum base distilled from sugar cane molasses in the US Virgin Islands.  The rum is then proofed down with artesian well water filtered through multiple charcoal filters.  Coconut syrup made with real coconut, and edible glitter are blended before bottling at 50 proof.  Dented Brick also crafts a Mango, Pineapple, and Passion Fruit flavored glitter rum.   It pours to a cloudy shimmery white nail polish color.  The aroma leads with coconut liqueur and Hawaiian Tropics sunscreen.  The creamy coconut and sweet brown sugar entry builds to a sweet coconut macaroon peak.  It fades with vanilla, coconut gelato, and molasses.  The finish leaves pina colada, white chocolate, and Caribbean rum taste.  After reviewing dozens of over sweet coconut rums that taste more like liqueur, than rum its nice to find one with real coconut, and rum flavor without being over sweet and syrupy.  Disco-Nut Coconut Rum will mix well in cocktails, but I’ll drink mine with nothing more than an ice filled glass.
