Review: RumChata Coconut Cream
RumChata Coconut Cream was just released. RumChata was launched October 2009 by industry veteran and Master Blender Tom Maas. It is made with fresh Wisconsin dairy cream and ingredients from 6 countries including premium Caribbean rum, Madagascar vanilla, cinnamon, and several secret ingredients. By 2012 they were already producing 365,000 cases per year. E&J Gallo acquired Agave Loco the parent company of RumChata April 2021, along with Midwest Custom Bottling which produces the RumChata and Tippy Cow brands. Since launching E&J Gallo Brandy in 1975 E&J has created or acquired over a dozen spirits including New Amsterdam Vodka, RumHaven, Camarena, Komos, and Don Fulano Tequila, Stratusphere Gin, Dalmore and Jura Scotch, and the High Noon brand. They are now the 4th largest spirit supplier in the US. RumChata Coconut Cream joins the previously released RumChata Limon, and RumChata Peppermint Bark. I have enjoyed all three flavors, but Coconut Cream is the first new RumChata flavor since the acquisition, so I’m anxious to see if E&J has been able to continue the magic. Read more 
I’m Back
25 Years ago Michael Jordan announced his return to the Chicago Bulls with a 2 word fax. I’m Back. By no means am I comparing myself to the GOAT of basketball, but it does feel great to return. After battling Covid-19 and waiting for my sense of smell and taste to return I completed my first tasting in 36 days today. I try to stay a week ahead in my reviews to compensate for unplanned events. This allowed me to post reviews while fighting the virus, but the virus just dragged on too long. After a 29 day absence I posted my first review yesterday. Kavanaugh Pumpkin Spice Irish Cream was actually the last spirit I sampled and reviewed prior to falling ill. I used the flavor profile of Kavanaugh Pumpkin Spice as my measuring stick to determine when my sense of smell and taste had returned. That said I have some catching up to do as the bottles to review are pilling up. Expect to see daily reviews for the foreseeable future.
Review: Banana Pudding Sippin Cream
Banana Pudding Sippin Cream will be released May 22. We usually don’t receive a new product this early but in times like this its great to have something to look forward to. The Sippin Cream line of spirits was launched November 2016 by Sugarlands Distilling Company. The current product line includes Butter Pecan, Dark Chocolate Coffee, Eggnog, Electric Orange, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and Strawberry Dream. Banana Pudding Sippin Cream is made in Gatlinburg Tennessee where the Sugarlands Distillery first opened March 2014. It is made with rum, cream liqueur, and natural flavors and bottled at 40 proof. Review: Roe & Co Irish Whiskey
Roe & Co Irish Whiskey has an amazing story that starting in 1757 when Peter Roe built a small distillery on Thomas Street in Dublin, Two years later Arthur Guinness set up his brewery across the street. By 1887 the Roe family had expanded the Thomas Street Distillery to 17 acres. They were producing 2 million barrels of whiskey each year. At the time they were the largest distillery in Europe and one in four Dublin residents worked in a brewery or distillery. In the late 19th century and early 20th century things changed. Competition from Scottish blended whiskey, Prohibition in the US, the Irish War of Independence, and a trade war with Britain caused most Irish whiskey distilleries to close. In 1926 the Thomas Street Distillery itself closed. In 2014 Diageo sold the Bushmills Irish Whiskey brand. By 2017 they got back in the Irish Whiskey game with the release of a new Roe & Co Irish Whiskey, and the construction of a new distillery at the old Guinness power house on Thomas Street. That distillery opened in 2019. While their own distilled whiskey is barrel aging Master Blender Caroline Martin and five elite Dublin bartenders tasted 120 different prototypes before selecting Number 106. Prototype 106 is a blend of over 100 blended malt and grain whiskeys aged in bourbon barrels and non chill filtered before bottling at 90 proof. Read more

With Valentines Day two days away I thought now was a good time to review one of the dozen or more pink gins on the market today. Most of these gins are strawberry flavored but I have seen pink colored raspberry, blackberry, pomegranate, pink grapefruit, and rhubarb flavored gins. Linton Hill Strawberry Gin is made from a 100% neutral grain spirit base. It is distilled and bottled in Spain, and infused with a blend of six carefully selected botanical’s. 525 Reviews. Closing in on 100,000 Views. What’s Next?
On October 30, 2013 I posted my first review and now a little more than 15 months and 525 reviews later, what’s next? Unflavored vodka, and rum reviews, a focus on cocktails, and an occasional feature story. While I will continue to review flavored spirits I plan on expanding my focus. Five years ago I started with an idea and a bar and over time my bar grew, and my ideas changed. After years of planning, and days of taking pictures of liquor bottles that were never good enough, I made the leap and started Best Tasting Spirits. Now after months of literally no audience my viewership grows monthly and distillers are starting to send me their spirits for review. Crown Regal Apple and Svedka Strawberry Lemonade were two of my favorite new spirits of 2014, and they were also two of my most visited reviews. I recently started posting my reviews to Facebook and I would encourage readers to give me some feedback and suggestions on improving Best Tasting Spirits. Don’t be afraid to disagree with a review.
