Review: Copper Bottom Vodka

Copper Bottom Vodka is small batch distilled from unrefined sugar cane at the Copper Bottom Distillery in Holly Hill Florida.  Mark and Joanne Craig opened the distillery that is operated by their son and daughter in law, October 2016.  They currently craft 6 different rums and Copper Bottom Vodka.  In the early 1760’s the British Royal Navy started using copper sheathing to protect the bottom of their wooden boats from barnacles and bullets.  They soon learned it also increased boat speed.  The distillery takes its name from these vessels.  The distillery itself is located in a former car wash complex but back in the 1700’s this land was part of Three Chimneys plantation, sugar mill, and rum distillery. Review: Reigncane Vodka

The Reigncane Vodka journey began when Brian and Michael Eckert found a source of water on a island in Alaska’s Alexander Archipelago fed by glacier melt and an average waterfall of 166 days per year.  Their original plan to produce the purest bottled water transformed into producing the purest vodka.  After three years of development Raincane Vodka was launched May 2019.  The name was later changed to Reigncane because of a potential lawsuit.  Reigncane is 6 times craft distilled in California with organic sugar cane sourced from Brazil, proofed with naturally pure Alaskan water, and filtered though organic coconut husk charcoal. Review: Crescent Vodka

Crescent Vodka was first released July 2015.  It is one of three spirits crafted at Cajun Spirits Distillery in New Orleans Louisiana.  The other two include Tresillo Rum, and 3rd Ward Gin.  All three spirits start with an alcohol base made from 100% Louisiana Sugarcane grown in New Iberia.  Gus and his brother Edward Haik spent five years developing these spirits before release.  Crescent Vodka is distilled on a custom copper Carl still made in Germany.  After fermenting with a proprietary yeast the spirit is run through the 16 plate column still twice resulting in a vodka effectively distilled 34 times.  The spirit is triple charcoal filtered and then reduced to 80 proof with hyper-purified water.  Read more »

Review: Pacifica Vodka

Pacifica Vodka was released in the summer of 2017.  It is crafted by owner and Master Distiller Jason Tripp at the Tripp Distillery in Pacifica California.  They also produce a gin and rum.  More spirits will follow.  Pacifica Vodka is made from 200 pounds of organic cane juice sourced from Paraguay and 200 gallons of water.  It sits and ferments for 7 days before it is pumped into a hand made 220 gallon, hour glass shaped still for 16 hours.  The spirits rests for 30 days in stainless steel and is then distilled another 16 hours.  The spirit, now a rum is kept in oak barrels just long enough for the chemical reactions between oxygen, carbon, and alcohol to settle the bold flavors of the spirit.  Once mellowed, the rum is filtered through coconut shells for 4 days and then redistilled by hand in a copper pot still, where it is reborn as Pacifica Vodka.  It is hand bottled and labeled at 80 proof.  The bottles neck is hand dipped in wax.
