Review: Topo Chico Spirited

by Jeff Ellingson

Topo Chico Spirited was just released.  It is currently available in 3 varieties and sold in individual flavor four packs.  Each 12 ounce can is made with real ingredients including tequila, vodka and real fruit juice.  Inspired by Topo Chico Cocktails and weighing in with 5.9% alcohol these cocktails include Ranch Water, Tequila & Lime, Paloma, Tequila & Grapefruit, and a Chilton cocktail, Vodka & Lemon.

Topo Chico Tequila & Lime: The aroma leads with agave and sliced lime.  The fresh lime juice and blanco tequila entry builds to a Ranch Water peak.  It fades with a sprinkle of salt and finishes with lime juice and real blanco tequila.  This is about as close to a freshly made Ranch Water cocktail as you are going to find anywhere.

Grade: A

Topo Chico Tequila & Grapefruit:  The aroma leads with peeled ruby red grapefruit and agave.  Additional time brings out lime juice.  The ripe grapefruit entry is joined by blanco tequila building to a fresh ruby red grapefruit juice, tequila, and lime juice peak.  It fades with fresh lime, tart grapefruit, a touch of saline, and blanco tequila taste.  I’ll be honest this one tastes better than most Paloma’s I’ve had.

Grade: A+

Topo Chico Vodka & Lemon: The aroma leads with sliced lemon with a corn vodka backing.  The fresh squeezed lemonade entry is joined by smooth vodka building to a Chilton cocktail peak.  It fades with fresh lemon juice smooth vodka and soda water and finishes with salt dusted lemon peel and premium vodka taste.

Grade: A

The Bottom Line:  Topo Chico, Coca-Cola, and Molson Coors hit all 3 flavors of Topo Chico Spirited out of the park.
