Review: Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream

by Jeff Ellingson

Buffalo Trace bourbon CREAMBuffalo Trace Bourbon Cream is made in small batches using Buffalo Trace Bourbon and a cream liqueur.  Originally only available at their distillery in Franklin County Kentucky, it is now bottled in Rochester New York.  This has allowed them to increase the distribution of this product.  Packaged in a brown glass, bell shaped bottle to protect the cream within, it features their trademark torn label with a buffalo, and weighs in at 15% alcohol.  Irish cream liqueurs are typically bottled at 17%.  However, unlike Irish creams where most contain grain spirit and Irish whiskey, Buffalo Trace only uses bourbon. In the bottle the aroma is bourbon and cream.  It Pours in my glass to a medium consistency and chocolate milk color.  In my mouth the feel is creamy but not thick.  The flavor is bourbon ice cream.  While there is a strong bourbon presence here, there is very little heat.  On the finish I pick up some notes of eggnog.
