Review: Grander 12 Year Rum

Grander 12 Year Rum was launched October 2017 by CEO and Brand Founder Dan DeHart.  It is crafted at Ingenio San Carlos Distillery in Panama.  1000 pound marlins carry a prized name, Grander.  Land one and you are among legends.  Grander 12 Year Rum is one of four Grander rum varieties  made from estate grown sugar cane grown in Herrara Panama and pure Panamanian water.  No sugar, color, or flavors are added.  In crafting the rum cane sugar is harvested and transformed into grade A molasses.  The molasses is fermented with a proprietary locally grown yeast and distilled in a 1922 American Copper and Brass Copper Still.  The rum is matured for 12 years in previously used bourbon barrels.  Some barrels are sherry seasoned.  The rum barrels are blended, and cellulose plate and non chill filtered before bottling at 90 proof. Bumbu Xo Rum was just released.  It follows the successful release of The Original Bumbu Rum, aka Lil Wayne’s favorite rum. Bumbu takes its name from the navy strength rum softened with native fruits and herbs of the Caribbean created by 16th and 17th century sailors of the West Indies that they lovingly named Bumbu.  Bumbu XO is crafted quite differently than both the early sailors recipe, and The Original Bumbu.  The Original Bumbu is made from sugar cane sourced from eight Caribbean islands, distilled in Barbados, infused with spices, fruits, and herbs and bottled at 70 proof.  Bumbu XO is made from locally grown Panamanian sugar cane and pure spring water.  It is distilled in a still build in 1912 at a distillery in Panama dating back to 1890.  The rum is aged up to 18 years in bourbon barrels and then finished in sherry casks made from white oak grown in the Andalusia region of Spain.
