Review: Skyy Moscato Grape Vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

skyy moscato grape vodka - CopySkyy Moscato Grape vodka was introduced March 2013.  Moscato has been the fastest growing grape varietal wine in the US.  With several fruit flavored Moscato wines including watermelon and peach already available it was only a matter of time before someone combined their vodka with Moscato grape.  Skyy was the first, and it is one of 13 flavored vodkas they currently offer.  They start with Midwest grown wheat that is distilled in Pekin Illinois.  It is then transported to San Jose California where water filtered through reverse osmosis is added.  They triple distill and filter through California limestone before infusing with natural Moscato grape flavor. The aroma is a fruit salad mix of pineapple, melon, grape, orange and wine.  The flavor enters as grape building to a grape bubble gum peak with a hint of banana before fading with a medium mouth warming and Moscato grape flavor.  Additional sips bring out additional fruit flavors and served on ice the heat softens.  This is a very flavorful vodka that is not over sweetened and will mix well with others.
