Review: Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale

by Jeff Ellingson

Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale - CopySamuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale was introduced in 2010.  It is crafted with Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg, Allspice and 11 pounds of real pumpkin per barrel.  Pumpkin Harvest is sold in their Fall Seasonal 12 packs with three bottles each of Boston Lager, Octoberfest, Hoppy Red, and Pumpkin Harvest.  It pours to a deep orange brown color with a medium orange tan head.  The aroma is pumpkin, malt, clove, and nutmeg.  The thick creamy full mouth entry is the result of 11 pounds of pumpkin per barrel.  The pumpkin flavor is joined by malt and nutmeg with sweet caramel arriving at the midpoint.  The lightly hopped finish includes pumpkin spice taste.  Given a choice between Harvest Pumpkin and Pumpkin Batch, Samuel Adams other pumpkin flavored beer, I prefer Harvest Pumpkin.  I only wish it was available in six packs.
