Malibu Island Melon rum was introduced May 2009. It is made in Canada with rum from Barbados which starts with molasses from the finest sugarcane crops and is distilled three times. Natural coconut and island melon flavor is added before bottling at 21% alcohol.The aroma is coconut and cantaloupe. The flavor is coconut with unripe banana and melon. The melon flavor is a little hard to nail down. On the initial sip I picked up honeydew melon. Additional sips brought out some cantaloupe with the rum on the finish. While there was no heat from the rum there was a mild burn as it slid down my throat. Malibu Island rum is smooth enough to drink on the rocks and flavorful enough to stand out in any cocktail.
