Review: Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale

by Jeff Ellingson

Blue Moon Harvest PumpkinBlue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale was the first nationally distributed pumpkin ale when it was introduced in 1995.  It was originally called Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale and later Harvest Moon.  Harvest Pumpkin is crafted with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, pumpkin and a touch of wheat.  It is one of 4 seasonal ales they brew in Golden Colorado.  The other seasonal flavors are First Peach, Summer Honey Wheat, and Mountain Abbey Ale.It pours to a deep amber color and a full tan head.  The aroma is malty cinnamon.  The pumpkin flavored entry has a hint of pumpkin spice and builds to a malty peak.  It fades with a subtle pumpkin spice taste with a light hoppy finish that leaves a cinnamon, nutmeg and clove aftertaste.
