Review: Rock Town Mandarin Orange Vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

Rock Town Mandarin Orange Vodka is one of four vodka varieties produced at the first legal distillery in Arkansas since prohibition.  Phil Brandon founded the distillery in 2010 in downtown Littlerock Arkansas.  The other varieties include their Original, Basil, and Grapefruit.  Rock Town Mandarin Orange starts with the Original vodka base made from local Arkansas corn grown by the Stobaugh Brothers.  The vodka is distilled 6 times and filtered to be ultra smooth.  Natural flavors including Satsuma, a Japanese Mandarin variety are infused before bottling at 70 proof. The aroma is citrus with whole smashed orange and lime with a spicy backing.  The sweet orange syrup entry builds to a tart tangerine peak.  It fades with mandarin peel and lime sherbet flavor.  The finish is warm and bittersweet with simple syrup, lime, orange peel, and corn vodka taste with a long peppery sting.  Rock Town Mandarin Orange Vodka has natural citrus flavor but it is very sweet.  The finish is warm and peppery with a mild alcohol burn.
