Review: Not Your Moms Apple Pie

Not Your Moms Apple Pie is one of two pie flavored beers the Small Town Brewery just released for sale in 6 packs of 12 ounce bottles.  While their other pie flavor, Strawberry Rhubarb, may be more original, apple has been a very popular flavor in the world of spirits and beers for several years.  Apple Pie as a specific apple flavor is also getting very popular.  Apple Pie is the best selling moonshine flavor.  Diageo created Pie Face Apple Pie flavored Whiskey.  Sprecher even makes an Apple Pie flavored beer.  Not Your Moms Apple Pie is brewed with Madagascar Vanilla and cinnamon with apple juice and other natural and artificial flavors.  Caramel color is added before bottling. Review: Not Your Moms Strawberry Rhubarb

Not Your Moms Strawberry Rhubarb is one of two beers just released in 6 packs of 12 ounce bottles by The Small Town Brewery.  The other one is Not Your Moms Apple Pie.  Both of these pie themed beers have been available on draft since 2015 at The Small Town Brewery in Wauconda Illinois.  As the name would imply they are crafted at the same brewery that created Not Your Fathers Root Beer.  The original NYM’s Strawberry Rhubarb was brewed with Madagascar Vanilla, cinnamon, and real strawberry and rhubarb juice.  The color came from fruit and vegetable juice.  Not Your Moms Strawberry Rhubarb is now contract brewed in Lacrosse Wisconsin and the bottles label only claims to be brewed with spices and other natural flavors with artificial color added. Review: New Belgium Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale

chocolate-chip-cookie-dough-aleChocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale was recently released.  It is a collaboration between New Belgium Brewery and Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream.  This is a Special Release Ale that is a follow-up to last years Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale.  A portion of the proceeds, $50,000, goes to Protect our Winters, a nonprofit organization that works to fight climate change.  In crafting this ale they whipped heavy doses of chocolate, brown sugar, and vanilla into a dough hued blonde ale base.  Read more »

Review: OFallon Apple Cinnamon Pumpkin Ale

ofallon-apple-cinnamon-pumpkin-beer-copyO’Fallon Apple Cinnamon Pumpkin Ale is one of four new pumpkin flavored beers brewed at the O’Fallon Brewery in Maryland Heights Missouri.  They join the Original OFallon Pumpkin Beer and OFallon Imperial Pumpkin Ale.  The other three new pumpkin beers include Vanilla Pumpkin, Jack OLatte Pumpkin Stout, and Peach Pumpkin Ale.  OFallon Apple Cinnamon Pumpkin is brewed as an amber ale with pumpkin and natural flavor.  Additional natural flavors are added after brewing. Review: Saugatuck Pumpkin Chai Ale

pumpkin-chai-ale-copySaugatuck Pumpkin Chai Ale is one of 13 year round, seasonal and specialty beers crafted at the Saugatuck Brewing Company.  Some of those beers include their Blueberry Maple Stout, Serrano Pepper Ale, and Oval Beach Blonde.  Founder and original Brew Master Barry Johnson opened his brewery in  Michigan in 2005 with a 3.5 barrel brew on premise system.  Today they use a 45 barrel brew system, and in 2015 they produced 13,000 barrels of beer.  Pumpkin Chai is brewed with pumpkin and herbal chai tea.  Chai tea originates from India and is made with black tea, heavy milk, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, clove, and pepper, and is usually served sweetened.  Read more »

Review: St Ambroise Pumpkin Ale

st-ambroise-pumpkin-ale-image-copySt Ambroise Pumpkin Ale was introduced in 1997.  It is brewed in Montreal at the McAuslan Brewery.  In Canada this beer is sold as St Ambroise Citrouille, French for pumpkin.  Peter McAuslan opened his brewery in 1989 after a successful career as a Senior Administrator at Dawson College.  His first beer was St Ambroise Pale Ale.  The McAuslan Brewery now crafts 16 beers on a year round, and seasonal basis.  St Ambroise Pumpkin Ale is brewed with pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and clove and bottled at 5% ABV. Review: Shipyard GingerBreadHead Ale

Review: Haunted Pumpkin Ale

haunted-pumpkin-ale-copyHaunted Pumpkin Ale was released in 2014.  It is one of six seasonal beers brewed by The Lucky Girl Brewing Company.  A 7th, Grapefruit Shandy is coming soon.  They also brew 5 year round beers.  While the Lucky Girl Brewing Company is based in Michigan their beer is brewed by the Susquehanna Brewing Company in Pittston Pennsylvania.  Haunted Pumpkin Ale is brewed with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and 3 pounds of pumpkin per barrel. Review: Lakefront Pumpkin Lager

lakefront-pumpkin-lager-copyLakefront Pumpkin Lager was one of the first pumpkin beers when it was launched in 1989.  It is also one of the few Pumpkin Lagers made in the world.  Most are ales.  It is made from a recipe Thomas Jefferson used to craft his pumpkin beer.  The lager is brewed with real pumpkin mash and spices sourced from The Spice House, a Milwaukee institution.  Those spices include cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and allspice.  Brothers Jim and Russ Klitsch started brewing their beer in 1987 in an old bakery building on the Milwaukee River.  By 1998 production had reach 3000 barrels a year and they moved to a building built in 1908 to house the Milwaukee Electric Railway. Review: Redds Ginger Apple Ale

redds-ginger-apple-aleRedds Ginger Apple Ale is one of three limited pick, seasonal release ales.  The others include a Cranberry and a Blueberry Ale.  Redds Ginger Apple Ale was released in September.  Redd’s also makes three year round flavors, Apple, Green Apple, and Strawberry.  They also produce the 8% alcohol, Redd’s Wicked Ale.  Redds Ginger Apple Ale is brewed as an ale.  Natural flavors and caramel color is added before bottling at 5% alcohol.  Read more »
