Review: Shipyard GingerBreadHead Ale

by Jeff Ellingson

shipyard-gingerbreadhead-copyShipyard GingerBreadHead Ale was released as a winter seasonal ale in 2014.  It joined over 20 year round and seasonal beers they brew in Portland Maine.  Yes this is the same company that brews Pumpkin Head, Apple Head, and Melon Head Ale.It pours to a deep brown amber color with a medium tan head that dissipates quickly.  The aroma is brown sugar, gingerbread, malt, and cinnamon.  The sweet molasses and brown sugar entry is joined by apple and malt flavor, building to a creamy cinnamon clove peak.  It fades with ginger bread flavor and finishes lightly hopped with bittersweet notes of dark chocolate malt, and ginger.  I would have liked a little more gingerbread flavor and a little less ginger taste.
