Review: Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey

Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey was released in November.  It is crafted in Brown County Indiana by Master Distiller Bryan Smith, with two year old straight bourbon whiskey and natural flavors.  Bryan did not want to create a me too product so he started with a premium whiskey base and balanced the sweet natural peanut butter flavors with sea salt.  Hard Truth Distillery produces several spirits including Schoonover Straight Bourbon Whiskey, McCabes Irish Whiskey, Sipes Straight Bourbon Whiskey, White Oak Reserve Rum, Toasted Coconut Rum Cream, Toasted Coconut Rum, Original Vodka, Gin, and Cinnamon Vodka  Read more »

Review: Blind Squirrel Peanut Butter Whiskey

Blind Squirrel Peanut Butter Whiskey is one of 17 peanut butter whiskeys we have reviewed.  While that may seem like a lot they keep making more so they must be selling.  This is also the second squirrel themed peanut butter whiskey to go with the many sheep, ram, dog, and elephant themed peanut butter whiskeys already on the market today.  Blind Squirrel is produced by Universal Brands in Princeton Minnesota making it the third peanut butter whiskey made in the Gopher State.  Read more »

Review: Shepherd’s P’Nutty Peanut Butter Whiskey

Shepherd’s P’Nutty Peanut Butter Whiskey is yet another peanut butter whiskey looking to ride the wave of peanut butter whiskey sales led by Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey, the segment leading and product innovator .  It is made by K.D Distilling Co.  a division of Sazerac.  By my count this is the third peanut butter whiskey brand made by Sazerac as they produce both Sheep Dog and Rams Point.  I picked up my bottle at Total Wine & More.  The ingredient list reads whiskey, natural flavors and caramel color. Review: Ballotin Peanut Butter Chocolate Whiskey

Ballotin Peanut Butter Chocolate Whiskey is the latest chocolate flavored whiskey released by Saloon Spirits.  It joins a flavor lineup that already includes Ballotin Original Chocolate, Bourbon Ball, Chocolate Cherry Cream, Caramel Turtle Chocolate, and Chocolate Mint.  The whiskey base is made from a traditional bourbon mash of 51% or more corn, with wheat and barley making up the balance.  The whiskey is aged for 2 years in previously used oak barrels.  Bourbon must be aged in new American white oak barrels that have been charred.  The char and new oak from those bourbon barrels would have created a flavor barrier.  All natural chocolate and peanut butter flavors and caramel color are blended with the whiskey base before bottling at 60 proof. Review: Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey

Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey was just released.  While I’m not surprised Bird Dog introduced a Peanut Butter Whiskey, they already produce twelve flavored whiskeys, I am surprised thirteen peanut butter whiskeys were launched before Bird Dog came out with theirs.  Bird Dog is one of several spirits created by Western Spirits Beverage Company in Bowling Green Kentucky.  Western Spirits also makes Calumet Farm Bourbon, Sam Houston Bourbon, Lexington Bourbon, Kru Vodka, Twenty Grand Vodka, and Bokeelia Rum.  Bird Dog Peanut Butter starts with a bourbon base made from corn, malted barley, and rye.  It is aged in white oak barrels.  Peanut Butter flavors including real peanuts are infused before bottling at 80 proof. Review: Skatter Brain Peanut Butter Whiskey

Skatter Brain Peanut Butter Whiskey was just released.  While peanut butter whiskey will never catch cinnamon flavored whiskey it total sales, peanut butter is the fastest growing flavored whiskey on the market today.  Skatter Brain is made by Universal Brands in Princeton Minnesota and is sold at Total Wine and More stores throughout the US.  It is made from a Canadian Whiskey base.  Natural flavors and caramel color are added before bottling at 70 proof. Review: Porters Peanut Butter Whiskey

Porters Peanut Butter Whiskey was just released.  It is not made with real peanuts so the spirit is safe to drink for those with peanut allergies.  Those of you with children in school know just how real peanut allergies are as some schools even ban peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from students lunches.  Peanut Butter is one of five flavored whiskeys created by Ogdens Own Distillery in Ogden Utah.  The others include Porters Fire, Porters Peach, Porters Apple, and Porters Huckleberry.  Each starts with a Canadian Whiskey base and they weigh in at 66.6 proof.  Peanut Butter flavored whiskey has been on a roll with seemingly a new brand arriving every month.  This is our 12th peanut butter whiskey review and it wont be our last. Review: Blue Lacy Peanut Butter Whiskey

Blue Lacy Peanut Butter Whiskey is described as a flavored Texas whiskey.  While I have seen bottle images of a number of Blue Lacy flavored whiskeys, until now I have never seen an actual Blue Lacy whiskey for sale.  The Blue Lacy is the state dog of Texas and was the inspiration for JEM Beverage Co’s line of flavored whiskeys.  JEM Beverage is the parent company of Western Son Distillery in Pilot Point Texas.  Very little information is printed on the bottles label except to say it is bottled at the Western Son Distillery in Pilot Point Texas.  Western Son is best known for their line of nine vodka’s including eight flavored varieties.  This distillery also makes a gin, four canned cocktails, and a Texas Bourbon Whiskey.  The whiskey is made from a mash of 68% Texas corn, 22% Canadian Rye, and 10% two row barley.  It is distilled in a 600 gallon copper pot still and aged in new American White Oak barrels that have been charred to a level 3.  It is unclear if this is the whiskey base for Blue Lacy Peanut Butter Whiskey.  Read more »

Review: Ugly Dog Peanut Butter Bourbon Whiskey

Ugly Dog Peanut Butter Bourbon Whiskey was released February 2020.  It joins a bourbon lineup that includes Ugly Dog Bourbon Whiskey, Ugly Dog Salted Caramel Bourbon Whiskey, and Ugly Dog Michigan Cherry Bourbon Whiskey.  Ugly Dog Distillery is located in Chelsea Michigan and was founded by John Dyer and Dewey Winkle and named after John’s German wire haired pointer.  Ugly Dog Distillery also produces a rum, gin, vodka, bacon vodka, and raspberry vodka.  The vodka is small batch distilled in a copper still they hand hammered and welded themselves.  Ugly Dog Peanut Butter Bourbon Whiskey is made from a Kentucky Bourbon base.  It is not made with any real peanuts.  Because this is described as Kentucky bourbon, I believe the whiskey is sourced, and not distilled in Chelsea Michigan but rather Kentucky.  Natural flavors are added before bottling at 70 proof. Review: SQRLL Peanut Butter Whiskey

SQRLL Peanut Butter Whiskey was just released by Beam Suntory.  While Beam Suntory is quite proud of Jim Beam Peach, Jim Beam Vanilla, Jim Beam Honey, Jim Beam Apple, Jim Beam Maple, Jim Beam Kentucky Fire Cinnamon, and Jim Beam Red Stag Black Cherry Whiskey, figuring out Beam was responsible for SQRLL took a little detective work.  The Pinnacle Vodka shaped bottle SQRLL comes packaged in was the first clue.  The bottles label reading produced and bottled by Fielding and Jones, a named tied to Beams Pucker Brand was another.  SQRRL weighs in at 70 proof and is made from whiskey, with natural flavors, and caramel color.
