Review: Kerrygold Irish Cream Liqueur

by Jeff Ellingson

Kerrygold irish cream liqueur - CopyKerrygold Irish Cream liqueur was just launched in Florida and Illinois with their eye on National Distribution soon.  It is Imported by Imperial Brands, a subsidiary of Belvedere S.A., the distillers of several brands including Sobieski vodka.  It is a partnership between Belvedere S.A. and the Irish Dairy Board.  If the Kerrygold name sounds familiar to you it is the same Kerrygold, behind the famous Irish butter and cheese.  Their Irish cream is made with Irish cream from grass fed cows, oak aged whiskey, Irish spirits, and luxurious chocolate.  It is made in Dublin and bottled at 34 proof. It pours to a thick chocolate milk color.  The aroma is chocolate brownie with a hint of whiskey.  In my mouth the feel is soft and creamy.  The flavor enters as milk chocolate and cream.  The chocolate flavor intensifies as it warms in my mouth building to a fudge brownie peak.  It fades with a mild mouth warming and aged Irish whiskey flavor, followed by a creamy bittersweet chocolate mocha finish.  While most Irish Cream liqueurs are made with chocolate, this has more chocolate flavor than any Irish Cream I’ve tried, and I’ve had quite a few.
