Review: Jameson Orange

Jameson Orange Irish Whiskey was just released in the US.  It was first released in the UK August 2021.  Jameson Lime & Ginger was recently launched in Russia.  Seems like a curious place to kick off a new spirit from one of the worlds largest whiskey producers.  It is made with Jameson Irish Whiskey and natural orange flavor.  Jameson Original Irish Whiskey is made from 3 ingredients, barley, both malted and unmalted grown within 100 miles of the distillery, non GMO maize grown in the South of France, and water sourced from the Dungourney River.  Jameson is a blend of pot still and fine grain whiskey.  Both are triple distilled and aged for a minimum of four years in both used bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry casks.  The aroma leads with fresh peeled orange.  Additional time brings out vanilla, honey, and malted grain notes.  The sweet orange entry builds to a juicy tangerine peak.  It fades with vanilla, honey, and malt, and finishes with spicy orange peel, vanilla and oak leaving bittersweet orange peel, and a warm peppery sting.  The fresh orange flavor of Jameson Orange is amazing.  If Jameson parent, Pernod Richard put this same orange flavor in Jameson stablemate Absolut Vodka, they would hit it out of the part.  That said I’m a little disappointed there it not more of a Jameson Whiskey presence here.  Because of this I go back and fourth on my assessment of Jameson Orange.  In the end I have to say this is one one taste spirit.  Jameson Orange will mix well in cocktails or just serve it on the rocks with an orange twist.
