Review: Ellum Ranch Patio Water

by Jeff Ellingson

Ellum Ranch Patio Water is a hard seltzer just released by Deep Ellum Brewing Company in Dallas Texas.  Deep Ellum was the first craft brewery in Dallas when they opened in 2011.  They currently craft 9 year round beers and several seasonal brews.  This is their “City Slicker” take on the ever popular Texas Ranch Water.  The original Texas Ranch Water recipe is made with tequila, Topo Chico, and lime juice.  Unlike the other ranch water hard seltzers on the market today Ellum Ranch does not contain any tequila or agave syrup.  Deep Ellum is made from a cane sugar alcohol base with real lime juice, salt, and electrolytes.  This is not the first hard seltzer Deep Ellum has produced.  They launched Blind Lemon in 2019 and followed that with a Blind Lemon Variety pack that included Blind Lime, Peach, and Berry.  Each 12 ounce can weighs in with 4.5% alcohol, 100 calories and 3% lime juice.  The aroma leads with fresh sliced lime.  The sweet lime entry builds to a lightly salted tart lime peak.  It fades with foamy seltzer leaving saline and lime juice taste.  Ellum Ranch Patio Water may not replace your favorite ranch water cocktail, but on a hot Texas day this is a very tasty and crushable hard seltzer.
