Corsair Vanilla Bean vodka is made in Bowling Green Kentucky along with their gin. They also have a distillery in Nashville Tennessee that makes their whiskey. Childhood friends Darek Bell and Andrew Webber began home brewing beer and wine in the Bell’s garage. Soon after that they began distilling whiskey. Their Vanilla Bean vodka is unfiltered and made with grain and whole bourbon vanilla beans in very small batches. The bottle I’m reviewing is bottle 463 of 485 from batch 85.Vanilla and chocolate for that matter are not naturally sweet. That chocolate bar or vanilla ice cream you enjoy has a heavy dose of sugar added to bring out the flavor. Corsair Vanilla Bean does not add sugar so the flavor you get may not be the vanilla you are use to. In the bottle the aroma is vodka with vanilla. Poured in my glass to a cloudy chardonnay color the vanilla scent dominates. The entry is a woody vanilla with some natural grain and vodka flavor finishing with a dry, medium mouth warming. Additional sips bring out a creaminess and some vanilla floral notes. Tasting Corsair Vanilla Bean one may get the feeling they forgot one ingredient, sugar. If thats the case the bottle recommends adding a bit of sugar to really bring the vanilla forward. I would recommend a splash of simple syrup. It mixes better and it softens the 80 proof vodka. Served in a cocktail with your favorite fresh fruit juice or soft drink will also do the trick. One of these cocktails is a Vanilla Crush.
