Review: O’Connor’s Irish Cream

by Jeff Ellingson

013O’Connor’s Irish cream is made in Abbeyleix Ireland and imported by Fleetwood Distilling in Loma Mira California, I’ve only found it at Albertson’s and Albertson’s owned grocery stores.  In the bottle the aroma is chocolate caramel and whiskey.  It pours thick to a chocolate milk color awakening sweet milk chocolate notes with a hint of whiskey.  O’Connor’s feels very thick and creamy in my mouth. The initial chocolate flavor becomes sweeter, taking on a little caramel before a full Irish Whiskey finish.  If the caramel flavor experienced here isn’t enough, O’Connor’s Caramel Irish Cream is an option.

A second review of this product was done on March 3, 2014.  The Freshness Date was L13346.

The purpose of this second test was to validate the findings of the first review completed on 10-13.  Irish creams are a delicate breed.  Few have freshness dates that the public can read.  While most claim an 18-24 month window for unopened bottles my experience is most take on a stronger whiskey finish within a year.

The aroma is chocolate and cream with a hint of whiskey.  The flavor is a creamy chocolate with some caramel and coffee notes fading with a full whiskey finish.  While I find the finish of O’Connor’s Caramel Irish cream soft and smooth once again I find the finish here a little heavy.

Bought a bottle at Tesco’s for a ridiculously low price of £4.50 [?.30]. However I wouldn’t buy another one! Both my friend and I agreed it is too sweet and we could hardly get a whiskey kick at all. will have to add some whiskey to it if I want to finish the bottle!

Absolutely loved the stuff, its unique flavour stood out from the rest similar products, blew Baileys Irish cream out of the water. However, I am gutted that they have seemed to have changed their recipe, the new Red Label O’connors now tastes like a cheap milk shake, similar to Baileys. They have lost a regular customer, bring back the original taste please.
