Review: Baileys with a Hint of Caramel

by Jeff Ellingson

Baileys with a hint of caramelBaileys with a hint of caramel was introduced on a limited basis in time for St Patrick’s day 2006 after a successful trial run in Arizona.  Originally named with a Hint of Crème Caramel it was paired with a hint of mint.  So successful was the limited release that both are still available today.    In the bottle the aroma is chocolate and caramel with a hint of whiskey.  It pours thick to a chocolate milk color where I pick up a hint of walnut and some additional whiskey notes.  The thick and creamy full mouth feel is Baileys trademark, the result of each bottle containing 50% fresh cream and milk products as part of the recipe.  Initially the taste is dark chocolate and caramel.  I pick up some vanilla notes before giving way to sweet Irish whiskey fading to a walnut finish.  There is a slightly stronger whiskey presence compared with Original Baileys.  Unlike some flavored Irish creams that are over sweetened or over flavored Baileys with a Hint of Caramel got it just right.
