2022 Top Ten Eggnog Liqueurs

The eggnog season traditionally runs from the end of October through the end of December.  I must apologize for not posting this list sooner but this has been a very busy year at Best Tasting Spirits and when we publish our Top Ten lists they involve a complete do over for each spirit.  We posted our review of Christian Brothers Holiday Nog over 9 years ago and we have posted over 2000 reviews since then so it would not be fair or accurate to post our top ten list based on memory.  For those unfamiliar with eggnog it is typically made from milk, cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and it is seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg.  Eggnog liqueurs are typically spiked with brandy, rum, and or bourbon, but we have also reviewed some spiked with wine, moonshine, and corn spirits.  A Top Ten Eggnog List is only as good as the eggnog’s being considered.  We have reviewed 17.  We believe 2 are no longer produced so we are not considering the previously reviewed Cutwater Bali Hai Tiki Holiday Spirit, or Holly Nog but we have included our thoughts on both.  To keep this Top Ten list relevant we will continue to post reviews of eggnog liqueur.  We will not alter our 2022 Top Ten list but we will use this site to add our comments on the additional eggnog liqueurs we review in the future.   2022 Top Ten Eggnog Liqueurs

1. Van Der Haute Traditional Eggnog Liqueur:  29.5 proof.  Made with spiced rum and French Brandy. If you are looking for a liqueur that tastes like real eggnog with fresh cream, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and a splash of alcohol this one should be your go to eggnog liqueur.
2. 2 Stars Eggnog:  25 proof.  Made with brandy and rum.  The total package of creamy texture, and great taste with a balanced alcohol presence.  Cinnamon roll, French Vanilla ice cream, rum, nutmeg, whipped cream, cream cheese, grape brandy
3. Skrewball Eggnog:  29.5 proof. Made with Peanut Butter.  I liked this one even more compared head to head with the other eggnog liqueurs than I did when I first reviewed it.  Creamy peanut butter, eggnog ice cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, dairy cream, whiskey.
4. Kirkland Eggnog Liqueur: 29.5 Proof.  Made with Brandy, Spiced Rum, Whiskey.  Thin and creamy.  French vanilla, nutmeg, horchata, brandy, spiced rum, brandy, vanilla milkshake.
5. Ole Smoky Shine Nog: 35 Proof.  Made with White Lightning Moonshine,  Thin but creamy.  Vanilla, dairy cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar cookie, vanilla ice cream.
6. Eggo-Nog Sippin Cream:  40 proof.  Made with Rum.  The highest alcohol content by far of any eggnog tasted but the rum is very smooth and does not dominate.  Rum, dairy cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, eggnog
7. Trader Joe’s Eggnog Liqueur:  29.5 proof.  Made with French Brandy Spiced Rum.  Ginger, cream, spiced rum, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, grape brandy
8. Evan Williams Original Southern Eggnog: 30 proof.  Made with Bourbon, Brandy, Rum.  Cinnamon, dairy cream, egg wash, vanilla, nutmeg, bourbon, rum, baking spice, brandy.
9. Winterhaven Farms Eggnog Liqueur: 29.5 proof.  Made with Brandy, Rum, Whiskey.  Thick and creamy, molasses, nutmeg, dairy cream, grape, sour dough, spiced rum
10. Zachariah Harris Eggnog: 30 proof.  Made with Kentucky Straight Bourbon.  Thick dairy cream, cinnamon, vanilla, egg wash, nutmeg, whiskey, salted caramel.  Finishes with charred oak, anise, nutmeg and whiskey.

Did not make the cut

1. Members Mark Eggnog Liqueur: 30 proof.  Made with Rum.  The thickest and creamiest eggnog reviewed.  Maple bacon, molasses cookie, spiced rum, nutmeg, ginger, clove, heavy cream
2. Christian Brothers Holiday Nog:  20 proof.  Made with Brandy.  Sweet syrupy, milky, cinnamon, nutmeg, eggnog, grape brandy.  Tasty but very thin and no dairy.  I liked this one a lot more 9 years ago when it was my first eggnog liqueur tasted.
3. Old New England Pumpkin Spiced Nog:  Made with rum from Puerto Rico, French Brandy, 4 Year Old Kentucky Bourbon, and Canadian Blended Whiskey.  Very heavy on the spices with nutmeg, ginger, and clove standing out.
4. Iowish Cream Eggnog:  38 proof.  Made with Corn Spirits.  Cinnamon, spicy Nutmeg, Burnt Marshmallow, sour dough, anise and alcohol heat and burn on the finish.
5. Mothers Original Holiday Nog:  25 proof.  Made with Rum and Custard Cream Liqueur.  Eggnog must have a minimum 6% butterfat.  Holiday Nog only 2%.  So as you can imagine this is very thin with more custard than cream taste and also harsh rum finish.
