Review: Van Gogh PB&J vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

Van Gogh PB&J - CopyVan Gogh PB&J vodka was introduced in 2012.  It is made from 100% grain spirits with natural and artificial flavors in Schiedam Holland.  Van Gogh creates all of their vodka in small batches and they are triple distilled.  Their flavored vodkas use a double infusion flavor process that takes 6 weeks to complete.  The flavor profile is peanut butter and raspberry jam, instead of grape.  If nothing else this is the most original of the 23 vodkas they produce. In the bottle the aroma is an accurate reproduction of peanut butter and jelly.  Poured in my glass I pick up some vanilla notes and the jelly takes on more of a raspberry scent.  The flavor starts out with fresh raspberry jam followed by a hint of vanilla and a smooth peanut butter finish.  The only sign of vodka is a mild mouth warming.  My initial concern prior to tasting this vodka, was the flavor would be over sweetened or artificial tasting.  I was wrong on both counts.
