Review: Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

Van Gogh Dutch Caramel - CopyVan Gogh Dutch Caramel vodka was introduced in 2009.  It is triple distilled in small batches with a 100% grain mix of wheat, corn and barley.  Made in Schiedam Holland with natural flavors, Van Gogh uses a six week double infusion process.  Bottled at 35% they use burned sugar to naturally color the vodka.  The aroma is caramel, vanilla, and alcohol.  Poured in my glass to a translucent caramel color I also pick up some milk chocolate.  The initial sweet caramel flavor is followed by soft milk chocolate with some notes of vanilla and a hint of vodka.  As the mild heat starts, I pick up a little more caramel flavor.  Additional sips bring out a touch of coffee which seems to replace the hint of vodka.
