Review: Shady Fruit Real Valencia Orange Vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

Shady Fruit Real Valencia Orange vodka is one of two new vodka flavors introduced under the Shady Fruit label.  The other flavor is Real Ruby Red Grapefruit.  Valencia oranges are named after Valencia Spain, but they were first hybridized by William Wolfskill in Santa Ana California.  They are primarily used to create orange juice which makes it a perfect partner to mix with vodka.  Their vodka base is gluten free and it is triple column distilled and filtered ten times.  Real fruit juice from concentrate, and no corn syrup are added before bottling at 60 proof. It pours to an orange drink, bright orange color.  The aroma is fresh squeezed orange and cucumber.  The sweet juicy orange flavor has a light cucumber backing.  The flavor builds to a tart orange peak.  It fades with a mild sting, a little heat, and vodka flavor, before a long orange zest finish.  This is a very flavorful vodka that will make tasty cocktails.
