Review: Redds Blueberry Ale

by Jeff Ellingson

Redds Blueberry Ale will be introduced in April.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on a bottle a little early.  It is one of three apple ales in their Limited Pick series.  The first was Redds Cranberry Ale, released in February.  Redds Ginger Apple Ale arrives in September.  They currently also produce 3 year round flavors including Apple, Green Apple, and Strawberry.  Redds Wicked Ale is their line of higher alcohol, 8%, ales.  This line has three flavors including Apple, Mango, and Black Cherry.  Redds Blueberry is available in 6 packs of 12 oz. bottles, 16 oz. cans, and 4 bottles are included in their seasonal variety 12 pack.It pours to a medium carbonated golden color with a thin white head.  The aroma is malty apple juice and sweet blueberry bubblegum.  The crisp apple juice entry is joined by tart blueberry flavor.  The blueberry Sweet Tart fade finishes with semidry tart and malty apple and blueberry Kool-Aid taste.  While I find the malty taste a little distracting there is less malty taste than with the other Redds flavors.  While Redds Blueberry Ale is sweet, it is far less sweet than most of the malt beverages on the market today

Please keep the blueberry ale! It is by far the best redd’s flavor hands down! Not to sweet like the strawberry and apple ales. It has sold out where I am from! It is a keeper for sure??
