Deep Eddy Sweet Tea vodka was introduced in 2010.  It is the vodka that launched the company.  It is made at the Savvy distillery in Austin Texas.  The company is the result of a partnership between the creator and owner of Savvy Vodka, Chad Auler who launched Savvy in 2006, and the creator of Sweet Leaf Tea Beverages, Clayton Christopher.  Clayton started Sweet Leaf Tea in 1998 in Beaumont Texas using $10,000 and his Grandmothers recipe for home brewed iced tea.  The company was acquired by Nestle in 2011 for millions of dollars.  Deep Eddy Sweet Tea starts with sweet corn and spring water from deep aquifers in Texas Hill Country.  It is column distilled ten times in a 20 foot column still before it is slowly filtered six times over charcoal.  Local clover honey and pure cane sugar is added and Black Indonisian Tea Leaves are infused before bottling at 70 proof.It pours to Coca Cola color, the result of the black tea leaves.  The aroma is tea with some notes of cocoa and vodka.  The flavor enters as a chocolate influenced tea and builds to a sweet tea peak before fading with some notes of cocoa, a mild to medium mouth warming and a peppery finish.  Additional sips bring out some honey flavor from the mid point through the finish that not only adds flavor but it softens the heat and pepper on the finish.  While the tea flavor is very natuaral tasting the honey and chocolate give Deep Eddy Sweet Tea an added dimension.  Enjoy Deep Eddy on the rocks or mixed in a cocktail.
