Cruzan Orange rum is one of the 13 flavored rums created by Cruzan using a five column distillation process, all natural flavors, pure well water, and cane sugar used to create the sweet molasses base. Their history dates back to 1760 when a sugar mill was located at the current site. The Nelthropp family soon built the distillery at this site on St. Croix. Today their eighth generation is working there. Cruzan is the fastest growing rum in the US and it is part of Beam Global which was just acquired by Suntory.The aroma is fresh picked oranges. The flavor is natural and tastes like slightly sweetened pulp free orange juice. It is smooth enough and not too sweet to enjoy served chilled and straight. I only pick up a touch of rum flavor on the fade, and a tickle on the back of my throat as it gently glides down. This is one of the cleanest flavored rums I’ve sampled and the flavor is strong enough to carry a mixed drink. One I’ve tried and enjoy is Cruzan OJ Dreamsicle which is 1 part Cruzan Orange Rum, 1 part Cruzan Vanilla Rum, 1 part orange liqueur, and 3 parts half and half.
