Review: Coney Island Hard Ginger Ale

by Jeff Ellingson

Coney Island Hard Ginger Ale - CopyConey Island Hard Ginger Ale was recently introduced along with a Hard Orange Cream Ale.  These two hard soda’s join their previously reviewed Hard Root Beer.  The Coney Island Brewery is an independently operated brewery in Brooklyn New York owned by Boston Beer Works, the parent company of Samuel Adams Beer, and Angry Orchard Hard Cider.  The Coney Island brewery brews 7 year round brews and including seasonal beers, over a dozen throughout the year.  These seasonal beers include a Watermelon Wheat, and a Cotton Candy Kolsch.  Their Hard Ginger ale is brewed with natural flavors including West African grown ginger, and caramel color.  It is bottled at 5.6% alcohol in Cincinnati and Breinigsville Pennsylvania. It pours to a straw color with a medium head that dissipates quickly.  The aroma is Canada Dry Ginger Ale.  The sugar sweet entry has genuine ginger ale taste.  Breaking the flavor down I taste lemon lime soda with ginger flavor, finishing with honey flavor and a spicy fresh ginger taste.  There is no alcohol feel or taste.  While this is only the second Hard Ginger Ale I’ve sampled, Coney Island Brewery has set the bar very high.
