Review: Beach Whiskey Bonfire Cinnamon

by Jeff Ellingson

Beach Whiskey Bonfire Cinnamon is one of two flavored whiskeys distilled from corn mash, then filtered at the old Seagrams Distillery in Lawrenceburg Indiana.  The other flavor is Island Coconut.  The unaged whiskey base is blended with natural flavor including capsicum spice and cinnamon, and bottled in Houston Texas in a red custom sea glass bottle.  Thanks in no small part to the success of Fireball Whisky, cinnamon is by far the most popular flavored whiskey.  Beach Whiskey Bonfire Cinnamon is made with 1/3 less sugar than the market leader.  The aroma is kettle corn, spiced apple, and red hot cinnamon candy.  The sweet cinnamon candy entry is significantly less sweet than Fireball.  Also absent is the thick liqueur feel several cinnamon flavored whiskey’s have.  Spiced apple flavor arrives before building to a creamy vanilla softened red hot candy cinnamon peak.  The smooth unaged whiskey fade, finishes with red hot candy heat and caramel corn, cinnamon stick, and a hint of peppermint taste.  By crafting a cinnamon whiskey with 1/3 less sugar, the natural flavors of cinnamon, capsicum spice, and unaged whiskey shine through.  Beach Whiskey is smooth enough to serve on the rocks, tasty enough to mix in a cocktail, and yes, it also works well served chilled in a shot glass.
