Review: Tippy Cow Chocolate Rum Cream

Tippy cow chocolate rum creamTippy Cow Chocolate Rum Cream is one of four Caribbean Rum creams that were introduced in February 2014.  It is made in Pewaukee Wisconsin by Midwest Custom Bottling with fresh Wisconsin dairy cream, Caribbean rum, and natural flavors.  Midwest is the group behind Rum Chata, so gaining shelf space in liquor stores shouldn’t be an issue.  From the chocolate milk flavor to the glass quart milk style bottle, Tippy Cow appears to be an Adult Chocolate Milk clone.  Their rum base and 14% alcohol content thou is quite different than the vodka base and 20% alcohol content Adult Chocolate Milk is created with. Review: Tippy Cow Orange Rum Cream

Tippy cow orange rum creamTippy Cow Orange Rum Cream is one of four Caribbean Rum Creams that were introduced by Midwest Custom Bottling in February 2014.  This is the group behind the wildly successful Rum Chata.  It is made in Pewaukee Wisconsin with fresh Wisconsin Dairy Cream, Caribbean Rum, natural flavors and artificial colors, and packaged in a quart milk style glass bottle at 14% alcohol.  In case the name doesn’t give the flavor away, the orange creamsicle pictured on the label is a clue. Review: Ricacha Horchata

Ricacha Horchata Cream LiqueurRicacha Horchata is made with 12.5% alcohol by Crosby Lake Spirits in Princeton Minnesota using rum from Barbados, cream, and natural cinnamon flavors.  At a time when Dean’s Milk which only has a 2-3 week shelf life is introducing its Flavor Tight bottle to protect its milk from light, Ricacha goes against the grain.  Standing out like a day light walking vampire against a sea of light protected cream liqueurs on the liquor store shelf, Ricacha flaunts its body in a clear see through bottle.  The packaging is both modern and attractive with the font painted on the bottle and a cork included cap.  Priced $4 less than Rum Chata and offering a $10 rebate at my local liquor store it was begging me to try it.  I did.  Claiming half the fat and less calories than the leading brand I didn’t know what to expect. Review: Cruzan Velvet Cinn

Cruzan Velvet CinnAs rum horchata sales continued to grow Beam Inc. pulled the plug on Cruzan Rum Cream and on August 1, 2013 they introduced Cruzan Velvet Cinn.  This latest entry has positioned itself as the premium rum horchata option, with a robust taste of cinnamon.

The Cruzan Rum base is made from tropical rainwater and high quality molasses on the island of St. Croix.  While Cruzan is a well respected rum, the failure of Bushmill Irish Cream proved a popular alcohol brand mixed with cream wasn’t a guarantee for a successful recipe.  Read more »

Review: Rum Chata

Rum ChataAfter spending 35 years in the liquor business Tom Maas retired from Jim Beam in 2005 to create Rum Chata.  In the process he reinvented the rum cream market with the first rum with horchata liqueur.  In October 2009 he shipped their first case.  In 2011 they shipped 64,000 cases growing to 365,000 in 2012.  They are currently on pace to ship over 600,000 cases this year.  It is not a stretch to think someday Rum Chata will challenge Baileys Irish Cream as the worlds best selling liqueur.
