Review: Detroit Steam Vodka

Detroit Steam Vodka is distilled and bottled by Rusted Crow Spirits in Dearborn Michigan.  The distillery was established in 2013 by Joe Schebel who partnered with his father of the same name.  Joe grew up in Dearborn Michigan and he graduated from College For Creative Studies in Detroit.  His love of Industrial Steam Punk Style is on display in each bottles design.  The Detroit Steam Vodka bottle not only features the old Cadillac Building but also a column still, and the Rusted Crow custom fabricated 1930 Ford Rat Rod Joe built with a 350 Chevy Motor.  He used 7000 rivets to puzzle piece copper together with used bourbon barrels on the side.  The Rusted Crow spirit lineup also includes Ginger Devil Sinnamon Whiskey, Ginstache Gin, Grey Stache Earl Grey Tea Flavored Gin, Davy Jones Rum, Straight Rust Belt Bourbon, and Murder Mitten Moonshine.  Detroit Steam Vodka is made from 100% Michigan grown corn and is distilled 12 times and filtered through activated coconut charcoal.  The spirit is blended to proof with artesian alkaline Michigan Spring water. Review: Big Machine Vodka

Big Machine Vodka is crafted at Tenn South Distillery in Lynnville Tennesse and Big Machine Distillery in Nashville Tennessee.  Music Mogul Scott Borchetta acquired Tenn South Distillery in 2015.  He later built Big Machine Distillery in Nashville.  Scott got his start in the music industry in 1985 with MTM Record.  He later worked for MCA Records, DreamWorks Nashville, and Universal Music before starting his own independent record label Big Machine Records in 2005.  His first client was Taylor Swift.  She was 15 at the time.  Scott later signed dozens of superstar artists including Florida Georgia Line, Lady A, Rascal Flats, Sugarland, Tim McGraw, and Thomas Rhett.  Upon acquiring Tenn South Distillery, Scotts first order of business was to create a world class vodka.  Big Machine Vodka is a true grain to glass spirit as the process starts with Giles County white corn and pure Tennessee limestone water.  The corn is ground, mashed, fermented, distilled, filtered, bottled and hand labeled at the distillery.  Big Machine is small batch distilled 25 times and filtered 3 times through platinum beads. Review: Fugu Vodka

Fugu Vodka is crafted in San Diego California at Cutwater Spirits.  Cutwater Spirits was built by the Founders of Ballast Point Brewing and was originally named Ballast Points Spirits.  In 2015 Ballast Point Brewing was sold to Constellation Brands for $1 Billion.  The executives used the money to expand the spirits product line and moved to a 50,000 square foot facility that includes bottling, canning lines for their canned cocktails line and a restaurant.  In February 2019 Cutwater Spirits was acquired by Anheuser Busch.  Fugu is named for the poisonous puffer fish also know as the Fugu fish.  The Fugu is hundreds of times more poisonous than cyanide.  Fugu fish is considered a delicacy in Japan where it is meticulously prepared so as not to poison their customers.  It is with that same attention to detail that Fugu vodka is crafted.  Fugu is made from the finest corn grains and is distilled six times and carbon filtered 15 times. The spirit then passes through a chamber of diamonds in a proprietary diamond blending vortex blending the vodka with water purified through reverse osmosis to reduce to 80 proof. Read more »

Review: Two Brothers Vodka

Two Brothers Vodka is crafted by Jim and Jason Ebel, the same two brothers who have been leading the craft beer movement for over 20 years with their Two Brother’s craft beers.  If you haven’t tried their beers, I highly recommend them.  Two Brothers Vodka is one of several craft spirits produced in Aurora Illinois in a former roundhouse that was constructed in 1856 to serve Aurora on the Chicago Aurora Railroad.  Two Brothers Vodka is made from a 100% corn base.  The spirit is distilled in a 300 gallon hybrid three column 20 plate still.  The vodka runs through the still once, but achieves the same amount of purification as 20 times through a standard one plate still.  Two Brothers Vodka is filtered once through a louse filter prior to bottling at 80 proof.
