Review: Sobieski Cynamon Vodka

Sobieski Cynamon vodka was introduced in 2011 along with their Espresso, and Bizon Grass flavors.  It is one of twelve vodka varieties made in Stargard Odanski Poland under the Sobieski label for the US market.  While cinnamon flavored whiskey is hot with Fireball Cinnamon Whisky leading the way, there are several cinnamon flavored vodkas.  These vodkas can be grouped in two categories, sweet and hot cinnamon.  Cynamon falls in the hot category along with Pinnacle’s Atomic Hot, and Burnett’s  Hot Cinnamon.  Sobieski is the number one selling vodka in Poland.  Cynamon is made with Dankowski rye and crystalline water from Oligocene Springs.  They use a continuous distillation process before natural flavors are added.The aroma leads with cinnamon pastry and builds to a cinnamon candy scent.  The flavor enters as a soft creamy cinnamon with some notes of vanilla.  As the vodka warms in my mouth so does the heat from the cinnamon.  The flavor also builds to a medium hot cinnamon peak.  While sweet, I would not describe the flavor as candy sweet, and the heat is a notch below the other hot cinnamon flavored alcohols.  This makes Sobieski Cynamon a vodka that not only can be enjoyed as a shot or sipped on the rocks, but one they may be more easily mixed in a cocktail.
