Review: Partida Cristalino Anejo

by Jeff Ellingson

Partida Cristalino Anejo tequila is made from pure volcanic spring water and 100% blue agave grown for 7-10 years on the Partida Family Estate in the Tequila Valley near a dormant volcano.  Tequila Partida was founded in 2005 by Enrique Partida a third generation agave farmer.  Within 24 hours of harvesting the agave is slow cooked for about 24 hours.  Once cooled the extracted juice is fermented for 36-40 hours in stainless tanks and twice distilled in stainless still stills.  The spirit is aged for 18 months in ex bourbon casks.  The tequila is than charcoal filtered to remove the color and some of the wood notes.  It pours to a pale straw color.  The aroma leads with oak, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, and agave.  Additional time brings out tropical fruit and butterscotch.  The sweet lemon, agave, herbal, and marshmallow entry is joined by oak and vanilla building to a grilled pineapple, and agave peak.  It fades with caramel, vanilla, tropical fruit and baking spice, and finishes dry and oaky with agave, pineapple, and white grapefruit taste.
