Review: Fresca Mixed Vodka Spritz Mix Pack

by Jeff Ellingson

Fresca Mixed Vodka Spritz is now available in a 4 flavor 8 can variety pack.  Fresca was Coca Cola’s second sugar free soft drink following Tab.  Fresca was test marketed in 1964 before a National rollout in 1966.  It was originally sweetened with cyclamates.  Saccharin replaced cyclamates and aspartame replaced saccharin.  In 2005 Fresca was changed to their current formula which is sweetened with a blend of aspartame and acesulfame potassium.  This is the same combination of sweeteners used in Coke Zero.  Long before the first Hard Seltzer was released Hard Soda enjoyed a successful run with the introduction of Not Your Fathers Root Beer.  Coca-Cola partnered with Constellation Brands who produce, distribute, and market the brand.  Fresca Vodka Spritz is made from a vodka base with natural flavors and artificial sweeteners.

Fresca Mixed Grapefruit Citrus:  The aroma leads with citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit.  The artificial sweetened lemonade and grapefruit entry is joined by corn distilled vodka building to a creamy vodka and citrus peak.  It fades with orange and grapefruit and finishes with sour citrus and soft vodka taste.

Grade: B+

Fresca Mixed Pineapple Citrus:  The aroma leads with lemonade and pineapple juice.  The artificially sweetened lemonade and sliced pineapple entry builds to a juicy pineapple citrus peak.  It fades with creamy vodka, tangy stevia dusted pineapple and finishes with sour pineapple, tart lemon and soft vodka taste.

Grade: B+

Fresca Mixed Berry Citrus:  The aroma leads with strawberry lemonade and blueberry jam.  The sweet lemonade, baby aspirin, and mixed berry entry builds to a artificially sweetened lemonade, grapefruit and red berry peak.  It fades with stevia sweetened grapefruit, soft vodka and blueberry and finishes with sour citrus, mixed berry, and soft vodka leaving artificial sweetener taste.

Grade: B

Fresca Mixed Mango Citrus:  The aroma leads with mango.  The ripe mango entry is joined by grapefruit and artificial sweetened limeade building to a juicy grapefruit mango peak.  It fades with dried mango and finishes with canned peach in syrup taste.

Grade: B+

The Bottom Line:  As someone who jump starts their day with several Diet Cokes or Diet Pepsi’s instead of coffee, aspartame is hard to beat.  Coke Zero may taste more like real Coca Cola but after years of Diet Coke the acesulfame potassium leaves me with an oversweet taste.  If you prefer Coke Zero you will probably score this a little higher.  That said, after drinking the regular Fresca and comparing it to Fresca Mixed Vodka Spritz the flavors are spot on.
