Review: Cascahuin Plata 48 Tequila
Cascahuin Plata 48 Tequila is distilled at Tequila Cascahuin in El Arenal Jalisco Mexico, a 4th Generation family-owned distillery founded in 1904 by Salvador Rosales Briseno. The current distillery was built in 1955. They currently produce tequila for 17 brands including Wild Common, Montagave, Loco, Lagrimas Del Valle, and Artenum Seleccion de 1123. Cascahuin Plata 48 is made from 100% weber blue agave grown in the tequila valley and natural spring water. The agave is cooked in stone brick ovens. During fermentation each batch flows between cement or stainless vats covered with bagasse. The spirit is distilled in a stainless steel still with copper coil followed by a second distillation in a copper still. The tequila is bottled unfiltered or diluted at 96 proof. The aroma leads with buttery agave, lime, pepper, and mineral. Additional time brings out herbal, vanilla cream, cinnamon, and mint notes. The sweet cooked agave entry has a soft mouth feel, building to a saline, herbal, and lime peak. It fades with mineral, a hint of mocha, and citrus and finishes with black pepper, alcohol, sea salt, hot cinnamon, mint, and lime. Cascahuin Plata 48 is a powerful full flavored tequila with an amazing flavor profile, but it may be a little intense and raw for some as a sipper.
