Review: Breckenridge Pear Vodka

breckenridge-pear-vodka-copyBreckenridge Pear Vodka is crafted in Breckenridge Colorado at 9600 feet above sea level.  No other spirit is distilled at a higher altitude.  They also create Breckenridge Chili Chile a vodka infused with Colorado Chile and Turkish Chili, and Breckenridge Espresso Flavored Vodka.  Each of these vodkas start with their unflavored original Breckenridge Vodka, made from 100% sweet corn as a base.  After fermenting in a traditional Scotch-style open top fermenter the vodka is distilled five times in a 700 gallon Vendome custom copper combination pot still.  A coconut shell charcoal filtration follows, before pure ice cold Rocky Mountain snowmelt water is blended to reduce to proof.  In crafting Breckenridge Pear Vodka, a pear brandy is made from Palisade Colorado Pears grown on Colorado’s Western slopes.  This brandy is infused with the vodka before bottling at 80 proof. Review: Tierra Azteca Blanco Tequila

tierra-azteca-blanco-tequila-copyTierra Azteca Blanco Tequila is produced in San Francisco Tesistan, Jalisco at Destileria Santa Lucia.  This is the same distillery that creates the Amate, El Capo, and Grand Mayan brands of tequila.  All right this is a tequila I purchased for $21 because I liked the bottle and price.  I would have purchased it sooner but I tend to avoid tequilas that provide no details of their production on their website.  This is a 100% agave tequila.  No details on the agaves origin, Highland or Lowland are provided.   Read more »

Review: Baileys Almande Almond Milk Liqueur

baileys-almonde-liqueur-copyBaileys Almande Almond Milk Liqueur was released in select markets May 2016.  I found my bottle in California.  Baileys Almande does not feature their trademark Irish Cream.  It is crafted with almond milk.  My initial thought was this is a little like McDonalds serving soy burgers.  The almond milk is made from sweet almond oil and almond essence extracted from crushed almonds, cane sugar, and purified water with a touch of real vanilla.  There is no mention of the source of alcohol.  Baileys Almande is gluten free and vegan friendly.
