Review: Pearl Citrus Vodka

Pearl CitrusPearl Citrus Vodka is made in small batches with pure water from Canadian Rocky Mountain streams and soft Canadian winter wheat.  The vodka base is distilled five times and filtered six times before natural citrus flavors are infused.  Pearl currently crafts 18 vodka varieties and while Citrus was one of the five vodka flavors they stopped producing when they introduced their new bottle design, I find it easier to locate Pearl Citrus in liquor stores than their two newest vodka flavors, Chocolate Hazelnut and Pumpkin Spice.  That said availability is limited. Review: DSP CA 162 Citrus Reticulata var Sunshine Vodka

DSP Ca 162 TangerineDSP CA 162 Citrus Reticulata var Sunshine vodka was introduced January 2014.  The name comes from the registration number of the original Federal license obtained by Germain-Robin for its first distillery in 1982.  Reticulata var. Sunshine is Latin for tangerines and tangelo’s.  In 2001 Germain -Robin lead by Ansley Coale partnered with St. George Spirits to create Hangar One vodka.  The brand was sold in 2010 to Proximo Spirits, and a 3 year non compete agreement was part of the sale.  The 3 years has expired and while St. George has released a new line of vodka on its own, Germain-Robin, now known as Craft Distillers has partnered with the Tamar Distillery to create the DSP line of vodka.  DSP 162 Tangerine is crafted with wheat vodka that is infused with tangerine and tangelos grown on an orchard in Exeter California.  This vodka is then blended with their straight vodka.  The straight vodka is made with premium wine varietal grapes including Muscat, Riesling, and Viognier, grown in Mendocino County California.  The grapes are vinified at local wineries and then distilled on the main Germain-Robin Cognac still and then distilled again on a small Holstein pot still.  The vodka is then cold stabilized and filtered. Review: St George California Citrus Vodka

St George california citrus - CopySt George California Citrus vodka was just introduced along with their All Purpose, and Green Chili flavored vodka.  If the St. George name sounds familiar it is the same distillery that combined with Ansley Coale, the President of Germain-Robin, now Craft Distillers, to create Hangar One vodka in 2001.  Hangar One was sold to Proximo April 2010, but they continued to craft the vodka at their distillery in Alameda California until the summer of 2014.  Now after their four year non compete is over, St George is back in the vodka crafting business.  Their California Citrus is made with Valencia Oranges, Seville Oranges, and Bergamot Oranges grown on the Lindcove family ranch in the San Joaquin Valley of California.  Bergamot Oranges are native to Southern Italy where over 80% are grown.  The Valencia, and Seville Oranges, and the peel from the Bergamot oranges are each infused separately with a non GMO base spirit.  Each is then distilled separately and then blended together.  After filtering it is bottled at 80 proof.
