Review: Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye

Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye has received a Double Gold medal at the 2020 and 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, won 1st Place Best Canadian Whisky at the 2021 International Whisky Competition, and was named World Whiskey of the Year 2021 by one of the biggest names in the Whiskey World, the author of the 1 million copy selling Whiskey Bible, Jim Murray.  Most spirits can claim to be award winners but its the quality of the competition and the names behind the awards given to Alberta Premium Cask Strength Whiskey that’s most impressive.  Not bad for a whiskey that was originally released in 2020.  Alberta Premium is crafted by Alberta Distillers from 100% Canadian prairie rye grown by local farmers and refreshing glacier fed Rocky Mountain spring water.  Alberta Distillers was founded in 1946 and Alberta Premium debuted in 1958.  They are one of the first and very few distillers to create a true 100% rye whiskey.  They are so well respected they supply the 100% rye used in Masterson’s, Jefferson’s, and Whistle Pig’s 10 Year old ryes.  Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye is aged for a minimum 5 years in new charred oak and non chill filtered.  It is bottled at 127-134 proof.  The bottle we are reviewing today was bottled at 127.4 proof.
