Review: Woodchuck Raspberry Hard Cider

Review: Crown Valley Strawberry Cider

Crown Valley strawberry cider - CopyCrown Valley Strawberry Cider is one of several year round and seasonal ciders crafted in a converted school house in Ste. Genevieve Missouri.  Crown Valley also brews several beers, distill several spirits, and also bottles several wines.  They opened in 2008 and have continued to expand their product offerings.  Beside Strawberry cider they also make a pumpkin, blackberry, ginger bread, and hard apple cider.  Their strawberry cider is made with hard apple cider infused with fresh strawberries. Review: Woodchuck Spitter Splinter Hard Cider

Woodchuck spitter splinter hard ciderWoodchuck Spitter Splinter hard cider was just introduced as part of their limited release Out on a Limb Series of hard cider.  This is the second variety, their first was a chocolate raspberry flavor.  Each of these ciders will be available for 45-60 days.  Spitter Splinter features European bittersweet apple varieties.  The fermented juice from these apples is aged in bourbon barrels for six months.  Woodchuck describes the flavor as dry with woody vanilla oak notes. Review: Woodchuck Winter Chill Hard Cider

Woodchuck winter chill - CopyWoodchuck WInter Chill Hard Cider was the first of their four seasonal ciders when it was introduced in 2008.  It is shown here in their new rebranded bottle.  Winter Chill is available November-February.  It is made with locally grown fresh pressed apples and Champaign yeast.  Once fermented it is cold filtered.  Winter Chill is aged with premium French and traditional American oak chips until it is ready for bottling. Review: Woodchuck Hopsation Hard Cider

Woodchuck hopsation hard cider - CopyWoodchuck Hopsation Hard Cider was introduced July 2014.  This is Woodchuck Ciders third hop included cider.  The previous one’s were Dry Hop, which is still available in their Cellar Series line, and Hopped Apple, which was only available as a draft.  Hopsation is Woodchuck’s sixth year round cider, and it is part of their Core line of ciders.  It is made with their original small batch hard cider and it is infused with Cascade hops before bottling at 5% alcohol.  This compares with their Dry Hop cider which weighed in at 6.9% alcohol. Review: Wild Cider Hard Berry

wild cider hard berry ciderWild Cider Hard Berry is one of five ciders created north of Denver by the Rocky Mountain Cider Company.  It is made with fermented apple juice, apple juice, elderberry juice, and natural flavors.  While elderberry is far more popular in Europe than North America, Hard Berry is not the first Elderberry flavored cider brewed in North America.  It is made on a former dairy farm, turned creamery that now uses the former creamery to brew their cider.  While the apples are currently sourced, they recently planed 1300 apple trees on their 14 acres in Firestone Colorado which when mature will supply their apple needs.  Hard Berry is sold in 4 packs of 16 ounce cans. Review: Wild Cider Hard Pumpkin

wild cider pumpkin - CopyWild Cider Hard Pumpkin is one of two seasonal ciders that along with three year round ciders are created north of Denver by the Rocky Mountain Cider Company.  75 years ago there were 2 million fruit trees in Northern Colorado.  In 1951 a hard freeze killed the entire cherry crop and decimated the rest of the fruit trees.  Most were never replanted.  Until now.  1300 apple trees were recently planted on fourteen acres on a former dairy farm in Firestone Colorado.  Once mature these trees will provide the base for their Rocky Mountain Cider.  Their Hard Pumpkin cider is made with fermented apple juice, apple juice and natural flavors.  It is sold in 4 packs of 16 ounce cans.  Read more »

Review: Johnny Appleseed Caramel Apple Hard Cider

johnny appleseed variety pack - CopyJohnny Appleseed Caramel Apple Hard cider was just introduced along with their Spiced Hard Apple Cider.  It is only available in their new seasonal variety 12 packs that also include four bottles of their Original cider.  While their Original was my highest rated hard cider, when you publish a daily alcohol blog, you have few opportunities to enjoy your favorite beverages.  I was very excited to hear that Johnny Appleseed would be brewing 2 new flavors each season.  Caramel Apple is made with hard cider with natural and artificial flavors added.  It is bottled in Baldwinsville New York at a brewery originally built in 1976 to brew Schlitz beer. Review: Ciderboys Grand Mimosa Cider

Ciderboys grand mimosa - CopyCiderboys Grand Mimosa cider will be introduced in November.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on a bottle a little early.  It is one of six seasonal ciders created at the Steven Point Brewery in Stevens Point Wisconsin.  They also brew two year round ciders.  Grand Mimosa blends pure apple juice from Washington state apples, orange juice, natural flavors, along with a special hard cider yeast from France.  The mix is fermented at cool temperatures for two weeks in stainless steel tanks and then filtered before bottling at 5% alcohol. Review: Johnny Appleseed Spiced Hard Apple Cider

johnny appleseed variety pack - CopyJohnny Appleseed Spiced Hard Apple cider was just introduced along with their Caramel Hard Apple cider.  It is only available in their new variety 12 packs that also include four bottles of Original Johnny Appleseed.  This is my 400th review and since my most viewed post is my review of the Original Johnny Appleseed, it seems appropriate that my 400th review is their first line extension.  It is made with hard cider with natural and artificial flavors added.  While Anheuser Busch brews beer at all twelve US breweries, Johnny Appleseed is currently only brewed at their Baldwinsville New York location.  This is the same brewery where they launched their Bud Light Lime-a-Rita malt beverage line, and where they currently brew their Michelob Ultra Light Cider, and Stella Cidre.
