Schell Shocked Grapefruit Radler Beer was introduced in 2013. It is one of fifteen beers they currently produce and one of three beers in their Extended Seasonal Series. It is crafted at the August Shell Brewery in New Ulm Minnesota. The first bricks to build this brewery were laid by August Schell in 1860 and it continues to be run as a family brewery. Radler is a German term that translates to cyclist in English, and the history of Radler or Shandy beers dates back to the 50/50 mix of lemonade and beer served to cyclists in Germany dating back to the 1920’s. Pickers Blueberry Vodka was introduced in April 2015. It is crafted at the Speakeasy Spirits Distillery in Nashville Tennessee. The distillery was opened in 2012 and their first product was Whisper Creek Tennessee Sipping Cream. Jeff and Jenny Pennington followed that up with Pennington’s Strawberry Rye Whiskey. They recently added Tommy Bernard, an industry veteran, as a business partner that allowed them to expand the business and invest in a state of the art column still to create their new line of vodka. They have also expanded their Whisper Creek and Pennington’s Rye Whiskey brands. Pickers Blueberry vodka is made with non GMO corn that is distilled 11 times in a 32 foot Vendome column still. Review: Gran Dovejo Blanco Tequila
Gran Dovejo Blanco Tequila was introduced in 2011. It is crafted by Master Distillers Leopoldo Solis Tinoco and Gabriel Espindola Martinez with 100% single estate blue agave grown on the Vivanco family estate. The agave is slow roasted in clay ovens for 36 hours and then shredded to extract the juice. Champaign yeast is added to the juice and harmonious music plays in the background while it is fermenting to optimize the sugar conversion. Review: Bacardi Limon Rum
Bacardi Limon Rum was the worlds first flavored rum when it was launched in 1995. It is now one of 16 flavored rums they create with rum distilled in Puerto Rico. Their rum is made with molasses and a single strain of yeast, Le Levadura Bacardi that is fermented for 30 hours in closed fermentation tanks. The fermented molasses is split with some column distilled and some beer distilled. Each is aged separately in charred American white oak barrels previously used to age bourbon. Once mature the rums are blended and filtered through a mix of charcoal made from tropical woods and coconut shells. Natural flavors are then infused before bottling in Jacksonville Florida. Double Cross Vodka was introduced in 2008. Malcolm Lloyd and John Geliner spent four years selecting a distiller and developing the vodka. It is crafted at a family owned distillery in the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia with organic wheat and mountain spring water sourced from a 200 foot deep aquifer. Double Cross is distilled seven times in a column still and filtered seven times through limestone, activated charcoal micro filters, and diamond dust. Their unique rectangular crystal bottle is made in France and features a medal snap on cap. Review: Excellia Blanco Tequila
Excellia Blanco Tequila is the result of a collaboration between Jean-Sebastien Robicquet, the founder and creator of several brands including G’Vine Gin, and Esprit de June Liqueur, and Carlos Camarena, the Master Distiller of Tapatio, and El Tesoro tequila. Excellia is created with 8-10 year old Weber Blue agave that is cut by hand. Once delivered to the distillery the pina’s are cut in quarters and placed in stone and brick ovens where they are steam cooked for 36 hours. After cooling for another 36 hours the agave is shredded and crushed. The agave juice is fermented for 7-10 days in wooden vats before a double distillation in copper pot stills. Some of the tequila rest in Grand Cru Sauternes wine casks once used to produce a single vintage of wine. The remaining tequila rests in Cognac barrels previously used to age 20 year old Cognac. After a few weeks of resting, the tequila is blended and bottled, labeled, and signed by hand. Read more
