Reyka vodka is crafted in Iceland at a distillery powered by Geo Thermal energy from volcanoes. The vodka is made in small batches using Arctic Spring water from the Grabok Spring, that when tested found no impurities, and locally grown wheat and barley. Rock Town Grape Arkansas Lightning was introduced September 2013. It is one of five moonshine flavors crafted at the first legal distillery in the state of Arkansas since prohibition. The other flavors include, peach, blackberry, red hot, and apple flavor. To my knowledge this is the first Grape flavored moonshine. Rock Town Grape is pot distilled from Arkansas corn in grown within 125 miles of the distillery in a copper pot still. It is then blended with all natural grape flavor before bottling at 40 proof. Coney Island Hard Root Beer was just introduced. It is brewed by the Coney Island Brewing Company, a brewery that is part of the Boston Beer Company. This is the company behind Sam Adams Beer, Angry Orchard Hard Cider, and Twisted Tea. It is made with ale, natural flavors, and caramel color, and it is bottled at 5.8% alcohol. Read more
Review: Oronoco Rum
Oronoco rum is made with Brazilian Mountain sugar cane that is crushed within 24 hours of being hand cut. It is triple distilled in a combination of copper pot stills and column stills. The rum is then blended with aged Venezuelan rum that was made with molasses. After resting in Brazilian Amendam hardwood casks, pure water is added to reduce to 80 proof. Berghoff Rowdy Root Beer was just released and it is one of 13 beers sold under the Berghoff label that are currently brewed in Stevens Point Wisconsin at the Stevens Point Brewery. This is the third adult root beer I’m familiar with, and I’m sure more will follow. Rowdy Root Beer is crafted from a flavorless porter and mixed with root beer flavoring. Grapefruit is the hot flavor in alcohol this year, with several new grapefruit flavored beers, a grapefruit flavored rum, and half a dozen grapefruit vodka’s introduced this year alone. Review: t1 Ultra Fino Blanco Tequila
t1 Ultra Fino Blanco tequila is the creation of Master Distiller German Gonzalez, the Great Grandson of former President of Mexico, General Manuel Gonzalez. In the late 1970’s his father Guillermo Gonzalez Diaz Lombardo launched the first ultra premium tequila imported into the US, Chinaco. After working closely with his father and learning how to handcraft tequila, German became Chinaco’s Master distiller. He left to launch his own tequila brand Tequila Uno. t1 tequila is made with 100% Blue Agave grown in the highlands. The agave is slow roasted for 20 hours in autoclave ovens. Clement Mahina Coco is crafted in Martinique at a former sugar plantation that was purchased by Homere Clement in 1887 when it went into bankruptcy during the peak of the sugar crisis. He made the investment to transform the plantation into a producer of Rhum Agricole. Mahina Coco is made with their Premiere Canne rhum. This rhum is made with juice from the first pressing of sugar cane and it is distilled once. The rhum rests for 9 months in a stainless steel vat and is slowly reduced with distilled volcanic spring water.
