Review: Hangar One Buddahs Hand Citron Vodka
Hangar One Buddahs Hand Citron vodka is one of four vodka’s currently crafted with Midwestern wheat, distilled in a custom built column still, and viognier grapes distilled in a copper pot still. Hangar One is named after the World War II era hangar at the old Alameda Navel Air Station where is was first created. Whole Buddah’s Hand Citrus fruit is macerated and infused before bottling at 80 proof. Buddah’s hand fruit is primarily used to perfume rooms and clothing in China and Japan and is named for the shape of the fruit which appears to look like a hand with fingers. Read more

Don Eduardo Silver tequila is made with 100% estate grown blue agave at the La Mexican Distillery in the Village of Tequila. Don Eduardo is named after Don Eduardo Orendain Gonzalez who built his first tequila distillery in 1926. The agaves are baked, crushed, and slow fermented before it is triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills. Read more

Review: Reyka Vodka
Reyka vodka is crafted in Iceland at a distillery powered by Geo Thermal energy from volcanoes. The vodka is made in small batches using Arctic Spring water from the Grabok Spring, that when tested found no impurities, and locally grown wheat and barley. It is distilled once in a copper Carter Head still, one of six in the world, and the only one used to make vodka. The vodka is then filtered through crushed volcanic rock. Read more

Rock Town Grape Arkansas Lightning was introduced September 2013. It is one of five moonshine flavors crafted at the first legal distillery in the state of Arkansas since prohibition. The other flavors include, peach, blackberry, red hot, and apple flavor. To my knowledge this is the first Grape flavored moonshine. Rock Town Grape is pot distilled from Arkansas corn in grown within 125 miles of the distillery in a copper pot still. It is then blended with all natural grape flavor before bottling at 40 proof. Coney Island Hard Root Beer was just introduced. It is brewed by the Coney Island Brewing Company, a brewery that is part of the Boston Beer Company. This is the company behind Sam Adams Beer, Angry Orchard Hard Cider, and Twisted Tea. It is made with ale, natural flavors, and caramel color, and it is bottled at 5.8% alcohol. Read more
Review: Oronoco Rum
Oronoco rum is made with Brazilian Mountain sugar cane that is crushed within 24 hours of being hand cut. It is triple distilled in a combination of copper pot stills and column stills. The rum is then blended with aged Venezuelan rum that was made with molasses. After resting in Brazilian Amendam hardwood casks, pure water is added to reduce to 80 proof. Berghoff Rowdy Root Beer was just released and it is one of 13 beers sold under the Berghoff label that are currently brewed in Stevens Point Wisconsin at the Stevens Point Brewery. This is the third adult root beer I’m familiar with, and I’m sure more will follow. Rowdy Root Beer is crafted from a flavorless porter and mixed with root beer flavoring. Pinnacle Ruby Red Grapefruit vodka was just introduced, and while they have created over sixty flavored vodka’s, including two cucumber flavored, and five whipped cream flavored vodka’s, this is their first grapefruit flavored vodka. Grapefruit is the hot flavor in alcohol this year, with several new grapefruit flavored beers, a grapefruit flavored rum, and half a dozen grapefruit vodka’s introduced this year alone. Pinnacle Ruby Red is made with French grown wheat and it is distilled five times. Pure French spring water is added before it is shipped to Frankfort Kentucky where natural flavors are added.
