Review: Woodchuck Day Chaser Semi Dry Cider

by Jeff Ellingson

Woodchuck Day ChaserWoodchuck Day Chaser Semi Dry Cider was introduced in March and it is the newest member of their year round Core Ciders.  Their Core Line includes Amber, Hopsation, Gumption, Granny Smith, 802, Raspberry, Pear, and Local Nectar.  Day Chaser combines bitter and sweet apples  It pours to a bright golden color with a thin white head.  The aroma leans towards fresh smashed bittersweet apples, with a crisp apple backing.  The crisp apple entry is overtaken more by the dryness of the bitter apples than actual bitter taste.  The finish is as advertised, semi dry, leaving a bittersweet taste.  While I prefer my cider sweet and crisp, Gumption is my favorite Woodchuck cider, Day Chaser is a well crafted cider that will appeal to those looking for a cider a little less sweet and crisp, without the dry wine taste.
