Review: Pravda Peach Vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

pravda peach - CopyPravda Peach vodka is one of seven vodka flavors Pravda creates in Poland starting with their unflavored vodka as a base.  Pravda has been distilling vodka since 1743 in Southern Poland.  Their production facilities are in the Carpathian Mountain District of Bielsko-Biala.  It is made in small batches with pristine ice cold Carpathian Mountain spring water and local late harvest sweet rye.  They use a five step continuous distillation process that includes two extra high column stills.  This is followed by an extra distillation in a copper still to soften the taste.  It is then filtered with charcoal made from French Birchwood.  Then a cold stabilization process where the vodka passes through ultra technical filters under high pressure is used.  Natural peach flavor is added before bottling at 37.5% alcohol.

The aroma is Old World vodka with a hint of peach.  The flavor enters as soft sweet peach with a hint of overripe peach and builds to a tart peak before fading with a medium to full mouth warming and some vodka flavor on the dry finish.  After several sips the heat drops a level and more peach flavor comes through, but I still feel this is a vodka that works best as a mixer.
