Review: Ole Smoky Shine Nog Moonshine

by Jeff Ellingson

Ole smoky shine nog moonshine - CopyOle Smoky Shine Nog moonshine was introduced on a National basis November 2014.  It is a limited run holiday moonshine that was only available at their distillery in Gatlinburg Tennessee last year.  It is crafted with their White Lightnin moonshine as a base.  This is made with 100% grain neutral spirits that are distilled six times.  Cream and natural spices are infused before bottling at 35 proof. It pours to an almond milk color.  As I swirl my glass a slow moving cream curtain clings to the inside walls.  The aroma is vanilla ice cream with some cinnamon undertones.  In my mouth the feel is creamy but not thick.  The flavor enters with sweet vanilla milkshake taste.  Cinnamon and nutmeg arrive building to a spicy creamy peak.  It fades with a gentle mouth warming, cream softened moonshine flavor, and a lightly spiced finish.  This is a very tasty moonshine that Ole Smoky should consider making available year round.  Just change the name to Moon Chata.
